Hi,

I haven't been able to connect to any Xbox live party or anything since moving to 2 degrees. My NAT type just stays at unavailable even after doing port forwarding to the ports that are needed by Xbox apparently. I am still online and have gold membership, it just does not allow me to play any online games and/or join a friends lobby or their party chat.

I was wondering if any of you have had this problem while being on 2 degrees and what you might have done to fix this.

I Have tried Port forwarding, hard resetting the console, wiping it to factory and even a new mac address through the Xbox settings.

I don't know what else i am able to try to fix the unavailable NAT Type.

Would appreciate if any of you that have or have not experienced this could give me some tips on how to fix this problem.

Thanks

Never forward ports, and never put your console into a DMZ - it is an incredibly dangerous practice. Assuming you're running a Fritz!Box your console should "just work" provided you've got internet access to it.

How is your console connected to the internet?

^True enough but I ended up having to port forward to get the NAT Type working properly on my Xbox One S at my old house.  There were limitations with the router/ISP that meant it wouldn't work otherwise.

Hi,

Yes i am on the fritz!box, i have it currently connected over wireless but have tried wired also!

When i get home im gonna try and connect it to a hotspot on my phone just to see if the xbox in some way is not completely faulty.

Thanks

yitz: How many Xboxs you have?

I have a xbox 360 and that has also got the same problem. I just leave it off and not plugged in. I do have a PS 4 and that one is sitting on NAT type 2 which im guessing is strict.

thanks

Xbox One's from what i have noticed either need their ports forwarded or DMZ's. No harm in putting the Xbox One on DMZ tbh. Use Fritzbox and just put it on DMZ. Restart Xbox One and run the network test again.

This is putting the Xbox on the internet directly - highly not recommended.

Have a look at this and give it a go for devices needing it (Xbox, PS4 etc).

if i recall correctly, the fritz has an ip firewall setting that cause this behavior.

reason for it relates back to the xbox's urge to use tredo wherever possible, even when v6 is native.

Edit: here is avm's article on it.

Hi Lynx,

This is likely a configuration issue in your modem, check out this guide and make the changes suggested in step 3 and you should be good to go.

What is wrong with that? This is not a server or workstation with exploits. This is an gaming console with locked down OS which can only play games and not run a botnet. This is not a CCTV system where you can you can invade privacy and it certainly won't give you access to internal network hence DMZ. DMZ exists for a reason and there are very good reasons like this in terms of simpleness where security is not compromised and end result is achieved.

So the Xbox One is essentially a x86 computer running Windows 10 under the hood. What if for example a zero day like the SMB exploit exists and also affects the operating system on the Xbox? The attackers then have access to a x86 computer on an open network connection with any port they need.

Likely never going to happen but it is best to err on the side of caution with these types of things because you don't know. It can be mitigated by just fixing your network in the first place which many people here have suggested. Also, it'll prevent the PS4 / other consoles / games etc from working online correctly if your Xbox is in a DMZ.

The DMZ is the lazy solution and comes with potential security concerns. Never recommend this or apply it.

Another excellent example on why TR-069 is great. Glad it is resolved.

@2degreesCare I am still having issues with my xbox One port opening.. Is Fritz AVM working on a better fix.. so that it uses IPv6 better for Xbox? Or does the above work?
