This isn't exactly a gaming problem but I think it might be a good fit for this forum.

I have been trying to plug a mixer into the 3.5 mm jack. It allows me to set it up as a microphone but any sound I feed in comes out sounding like it is running through a phaser. I'm a singer songwriter and bought the Nitro 5 Spin to allow me to perform on Twitch.

The inbuilt gear isn't high enough quality. It's not the output of the mixer I'm connecting because I have tried every setting, to make sure the signal wasn't too weak or strong. It shows signal levels being OK on test. I finally plugged my iPad with music on it into the jack and had the same problem. I updated the driver for the microphone, that didn't do anything.
I tried each of three input options:

  1. Microphone
  2. Stereo Mix (Realtek High Definition Audio (SST))
  3. Microphone Array (Realtek High Definition Audio (SST))

Nothing seems to work. Given I have the same problem with the mixer and the iPad, it must be drivers or something. I'm hoping someone else using this model has an idea of what the problem might be. It's driving me nuts.

Hopefully it is something simple.

Fingers crossed someone understands what's going on....

Mixer would normally go to a line input, not a microphone.

Microphone in is the only line input my laptop has. Everything else is digital and the mixer doesn't have a digital output. This must be the same for other people using a mixer to their PC.

Mine is USB to the computer and works great. Cousin had problems with noise but got a sound blaster branded one which solved their issues. Analog into a crappy consumer grade soundcard will never be great.

If you really only have a mic in on the laptop check if its even a stereo input. Most are just mono.

Thanks, yes it is a stereo input.

I am thinking that I may have to have some sort of converter to USB. I might check at a music shop, because there must be plenty of music streamers using mixers with USB out. If I can't find anything then maybe Soundblaster is an option. I just don't want to risk introducing noise from the conversion. The sound through the headset of the mixer is awesome and I need it to stay that way lol.
