Any particular model that you would recommend? How would the official headset compare to a similarly priced ph headset. I suppose there is some PS3 tax on the Sony one?
HTPC: 3G P4, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 8500GT, HVR 2200 (for FreeviewHD), 2x Hauppauge PVR-150 (1 for analog TV + 1 for AV input), Windows 7 Display: 42" Panasonic Plasma Blu Ray/Games: PS3
i recommend staying away from the madcatz ones. Ive had 2 mates buy them and both had broken. Honestly id go with the official ps one as the same 2 mates went on to buy them and have had no troubles. I personally use a stereo bluetooth headset so the sound qualities a lil better but not really needed for voice.
I highly recommend going for the PS3 headset, it's comfy to wear, has exceptionally good talk-time and the best thing about it is when it needs charging you can put the headset in it's charging dock and use it as a desk-top microphone - so you don't have to go without it for any period of time.
P.S I have a PS3 headset it's only 6 months old and I don't play online as much as I used so if your after one I can sell it to you for cheap :)
With the official PS3 headset you get an on-screen display that I don't think other headsets give you. If you tap a button on the headset you get a display in the top-right corner that shows your volume, battery life and whether you're on mute or not.
It's pretty useful for keeping an eye on your battery life. Plus I always forget when I've put myself on mute!
I can't say I've tried the official PS3 headset, but I got a cheap second-hand BlueAnt off TM (I can't remember the price now, but it was pretty reasonable) and it works fine. Nice and clear and no issues.
