Anyone notice that peak speeds on xnet have been... fast, the past few days?
Have the tubes been upgraded, all the leaches on holiday, or is it just me?

You can never have enough Volvos!
Dratsab: I've noticed exactly the opposite - my speeds have slowed to a crawl. I requested a port reset but this hasn't made any difference.

Your wiring is dodgy and needs fixing - that's a whole different issue!

DrCheese: Thanks for the update.
"Flicking a switch" is a figure of speech.
[Edit] What speeds are we now talking? I presume the deal with Telecom wholesale was 32 kbps, not 32 kps or 32 kBps. Can you clarify this please?
David.
Cameronn: Here are the facts on why you're seeing improved speeds. Telecom Wholesale limit the throughput on our handoff link to 32kps per customer connected to our service. This applies to any ISP who is using Telecom Wholesale services for UBS & Basic UBA services (see http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz for details). This is usually why the majority of ISP's experience throughput issues during peak time.
Even though we have the international bandwidth to provide a higher grade service we struggle to get access to you - the customer. We have been applying pressure to Telecom Wholesale for considerable time to relax this constraint and it's finally paid off. This is why you are currently seeing an improved service. Nothing to do with flicking switches or purchasing more international bandwidth, just a simple change at Telecom Wholesale. Trust me we are working to try and remove this constraint altogether which would see an even better service during peak time.
Hopefully this explains the improved speed and gives some insight on the issue we are dealing with.
