I had this set up before, but have forgotten how I did it.

I had home.mydomain.com which redirected to np-ip.com which redirected to my ip address.

Is it a CNAME record I want?  I have one set up but it isn't resolving yet (I may just be impatient).  I can't for a url forward.

The no-ip to home bit is working...just not the home.mydomain.com to noip I expect.  I'm not using port 80 but others.

DNS doesn't redirect. I assume what you're talking about is a record which points home.mydomain.com to something.no-ip.com. If so, yes, an CNAME record is what you want.

The setup is unnecessarily complex, as you could simply point an A (or AAAA for IPv6) on your domain to your IP address. If it's not static, pick a dynamic DNS provider which supports custom domains, such as dns.he.net.
