We have UFB in Nelson 100/20 get that 90% of the time. About 90/15 down the rest of the time.

In Welly we have 50/50 VDSL with NZ Wirelsss and get exactly that whenever I've tested. We have fibre available in the building, but there is no reason to pay more when VDSL is bullet proof.

Most "average user" just surf the web and stream Netflix on 720p. For those users 20Mbps is just as good as 200Mbps. If you don't classify yourself as "average" then naturally your experience will vary.

but the "average user" will inevitably evolve over time...

if the facility is there, applications usually follow... cloud backups, smart homes, 4k/8k uhd video, surveillance, live personal hd broadcasts...

Swings and roundabouts.. I got 10 gig DFAS at work, but only 50mbit/20mbit VDSL at home. Can't get fibre until end of 2019 according to chorus, so I suspect thats early 2020.

Of course. I'm glad our government decided to roll out fibre so we'll be ready when bandwidth demand exceeds what's available on copper.

Hey iamsammajor, all of Chorus consumer copper products are sold at the max speed the line will go, so there's no speed shaping on any copper consumer line.

2 degrees do offer an 80GB data cap plan though, meaning you can download up to that amount.

As for fibre, you should always be getting near to if not the exact speed you're paying for, if your WiFi and home equipment is up for the challenge. ^Mike

Already asked and answered, but to address OP's question directly first off - no your ADSL or VDSL speed is no indicator of Fibre speed - they're just completely different technologies. Fibre's a pretty much it works, or it doesn't thing - distance doesn't matter too much.

For example, at my place we could only get ADSL (too far for VDSL even) up until this year - which mean't we went from a 1MBps ADSL connection to Spark FibreMAX at 940MBps.

Needless to say it's night and day and I chew anyone's ear off who cares to listen that Fibre is the way - stable, downloads so fast you blink sometimes and miss them, local pings are awesome, international pings slightly better (but physics is still physics - its not quite magic) and the unlimited data aspect means that my better half is super happy streaming whatever shows she wants.

It's even about even for us cost wise - we replaced the existing landline (WAF) - which mean's that the monthly payment for FibreMAX costs about the same as we were paying for ASDL & Landline etc.

Nice - I have some friends in a similar situation. Literally getting worse than 1.5Mbps on ADSL, and are going to be able to get Fibre next year.

Hey guys,

the tech came over today to install the fibre. i have fibre which is great, the pin down from 20ms to 2ms which is awesome.

i have a edge router lite so i have quickly put it in and follow Michael's Ubiquiti Edgerouter Tutorial

and enable offload hoping to get full speed of 900/400 however, i have this (tested with ethernet cable to switch)

i guess this is not normal. as download is a lot less than upload. edgerouter is in the latest firmware, and offload status is this

any of you have this similar issue?

please help

i asked "i am on 900/400 plan correct? my speed test only show im on 100/300"

guy on the phone" yes sir, you are on 900/400 plan which your speed can go up to 900"

then thats it.....

ping @2degreescare - as @hio77 says, it seems to be an occasional issue that pops up when a connection is initially provisioned. Sometimes it sorts itself out overnight, sometimes it needs a prod behind the scenes.
