Well 3 different companies were involved, well 4 actually. The roof came off the house to replace the hdmi cables. It was a new build 18 months ago. They are the original sparky, AV tech company, vodafone, and the service agent for the ubiquiti gear have all been working on it. They should be trusted people to solve the issue.

If you've spent $5,000 or near on this, you've been taken for a ride. If the Ubiquiti gear has been supplied and configured by someone, it isn't fit for purpose and you should be demanding a refund on it all. From what I can gather, you don't even NEED the EdgeRouter, and the (I suspect) UAPs should work just fine if configured correctly without speed issues. The Vodafone modem is bad, but it isn't THAT bad. Again, where are you based? I'd put good money on your issue being solvable in an afternoon with some beer and someone with half a clue who's in the industry. If you're in the Waikato, and you're not too far from me, I'll pop around and have a looksie.

This isn't making a lot of sense.

HDMI extenders are generally completely separate from your local network and do not connect to your network equipment and hence shouldn't be related to any internet issues. Is this not the case?
Two routers plugged in to the switch via their LAN ports with DHCP on (this is on by default) will conflict with each other, this could cause you all sorts of connectivity issues.
It also doesn't sound like you need two routers, is there a reason you are trying to run two and not just the Ubiquiti?

I'm not too worried about the money, it's been a mission over the last 18 months i just want a stable service.

Thank you very much for the offer I'm in chch, and it's been stable for a few days on the new Vodafone router. So I think I'll try those ubiquiti config settings in the earlier link and see if it is still stable and i can maybe ditch the Vodafone router.

Id prefer the ubiquiti gear as I'm going to change my security cameras over to them and it is nice to keep it the same brand.

If not this might be as good as it gets.

We have tried splitters and new cables and cat6 as Vodafone said the issue must be hdmi cable related. The issue is that every other device maintained connection except the Vodafone tv box. So connection wasn't seen as the issue for a long time.

The reason is that i want to run the ubiquiti waps over the ubiquiti router and also get ubiquiti security cameras.

I am on my third Vodafone router and this one now seems stable, it was sent out last week. So i may need to keep it if those settings in the link don't work.

Instead, just look at upgrading your Vodafone TV box to the newer Vodafone TV that you can buy from the likes of Noel Leeming. It is far better in almost every aspect.

Thats interesting to know, I do have the Ubiquiti Edgerouter and WAP units.

Where about's do you undertake that posted config to get it working? Is it in the Ubiquiti software only or does it need to be in the network settings in the Vodafone box?

Neither of the Vodafone TVs, either gen1 or 2 use multicasting so the Edgerouter config isn't relevant. Multicasting was used by TBox. Run cable to Ethernet port rather than use wifi. Vodafone TVs are or at least were notorious for having all sorts of issues, fault is in the firmware. Taking technical advice from Vodafone is a very dangerous activity.

The fact there are two routers dishing up DHCP straight away tells me stuff is not how it should be. As suggested get someone who understands networking to come and understand what you want to achieve and design a solution that works for you.

I'm totally confused why you a) have two routers and b) think you need two routers.

It's hardly surprising you are having issues with things setup the way they are. Why are you not just using the Edgerouter if you like UBNT stuff?

A router's job is to route traffic between the internal and external networks. Having two routers is asking for a world of pain, which you already seem to have.

There's obviously a lot more to this issue than is summarised here though - I can't imagine roofs being removed and HDMI cables replaced in order to troubleshoot a network throughput issue.

Get a 2nd fibre connection provisioned on the ONT, then you can use two routers. One for Vodafone TV and one for everything else. Obviously additional monthly cost for this, but certainly an option if you want it.

There are plenty that use compressed video over ethernet to extend it over a LAN, and in my experiance with 3 different ones they trash any network you run them on with masses of broadcast frames. I am not sure why vodafone would be involved in HDMI distribution anyway, once the box has an output their job is over. They have been very reliable boxes in the few I have done - when wired back to any old router at all. Never been good on wifi but that is expected.

Edgerouter doesn't have inbuilt wifi. Voda TV connects to Ubiquiti access point.

Vodafone TV works fine with the Edgerouter, whether it's the Gen1, Gen2 or even the older T-box using multicast. If it's not working you simply have something configured incorrectly.
