Sorry what do you mean by the internet indicator?

please note: G.DMT is forcing your modem to ADSL1 rates (maximum speeds of 8 Mbit/s) so your speeds will be a lot lower, but it is good for troubleshooting DSL faults

i think that just means you modem is not connected to your ISP

double check all the settings? check the log/diagnostics?

edit: i think the color change to 'red' if it fails to authenticate

So when you plug the old modem in it syncs up and you can surf the net fine?

When you plug the linksys in are you using the same line cords that you use with the old one? Or plugging in new line cords?
I would use the old line cords with the new modem as you know that they work as they are syncing up on the old modem.
If it doesnt sync with the old line cords on the new modem then I would just say the modem is no good. Take it back and get a new one.

it's not the chords that are the problem, i just checked and the modem is sending off a connection as my psp, ipod touch and ps3 can detect the connection but just can't connect to the internet if you get what I mean

Yes i get what you mean. What you are saying is the local LAN is fine but you cant get on the net as the adsl wont sync up.
The modem part of it could still be faulty. All im trying to do is eliminate things. If you use a line cord that you KNOW adsl will sync up on then you can look soley at the modem. Whether it is in the set up (but there are only a couple of settings that will stop it syncing and they are generally set from factory so I wouldnt think that is the problem), or if it is the hardware.

So, make sure the line cord is not the issue by using the line cord from the old modem that syncs up.

My guess is that the credentials on the WAN interface are not correct.

I'll take a stab and say the VCI and VPI are incorrect.

If the DSL light comes on but PPP doesn't authenticate there is basically a 99% probability you've got your DSL settings (VPI/VCI/username/password) incorrect.

You may wish to have a look at this thread I started a few weeks ago:

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=66&topicid=94413

I have not sorted my problem and it's a PITA. I know your model is different to mine but have researched this further via google and I find that it's a widespread problem with Linksys routers and they are widely regarded as being POS gear. I also know this doesn't help you but you are not alone.

I am thinking of taking mine back to DSE under warranty but I'm struggling to know what to replace it with, given that I also had a problem with a Netgear router that I bought new before the Linksys and had to return that too.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

so you ARE getting DSL? as in the light isnt flashing any more? If the internet light isnt coming up then you havent put in your details properly like everyone else said.

Encapsulation: PPPoA
Multiplexing: LLC
VPI: 0
VCI: 100
Modulation: Multimode

Then just put in your isp details (username and password) and you will be away.

(Correct me if im wrong fellas lol)

Thats from looking at the menu on an old linksys I have (wag200g)

You should use vc-mux rather than llc
