Hi, yes the 4011 has replaced the 3011 to the best of my knowledge although still available, these days I only use the 4011 for setups needing plenty of HP, otherwise its just Hex/S.

The price of the 4011 compared to the 3011 and the 10G SFP just makes the 4011 a no brainer.

I believe the UI means it includes the User Interface (small LCD with status and stats) this seems to be no longer a much available feature, as for GS, goodness know, "Go faster Stripes" purhaps :)

Has the Mikrotik RouterBOARD RB3011UIAS-RM mentioned on the first page in the advanced router section, been replaced with this MikroTik RB4011iGS+RM RouterBOARD

whats the score with UIAS or iGS as mentioned in the model names?

@Shindig U=USB port, i=POE out (injector) on 1 port, G=gigabit ports, S=SFP port

Be aware the RB4011 SFP port doesn't support passive direct attach cables, need to use the more expensive active ones.

Hi whilst it's true the SFP+ port is not stated to support passive DAC cables, I have several running with 1m passive DAC cables and had no issues, I understand longer cables can be an issue hence a blanket no support statement.

Hi, I just used the stock Mikrotik ones, although I do recall using a genuine Cisco one also and had no issues as I recall, will check on tuesday.

@Shindig yes you can connect the 4011 directly to the Chorus Hyperfibre ONT at 10G but you will require a 10G UTP module that ramps the price up a bit, its a pity the ONT did not have an SFP+ port

Is there any reason you want to use the 4011 (or any 3rd party router for that matter) as opposed just using the Chorus RGW feature. I do understand why you would want to (ie control and flexibility, and vpn's etc) but just curious.

@cyril7, this won't be for hyperFibre. BigPipe 1Gig fibre here.

It would replace a Grandstream GWN7000 which I'll repurpose at the bach or sell.

Looking at the Mikroket manual, I will create a PPPOE connection on ethernet1 and plug the cable from the ONT to eth1

I like the idea of the POE output on eth10, I will power a grandstream wireless AP

Hi, yes all you need is to plug the ONT into eth1 just as you would with any other router. You will need to create vlan10 interface on eth1, then place a pppoe-client session on to vlan10. Once the pppoe-client is created dont forget to add the pppoe-client session to the "WAN" interface list and you are away.

I've updated the OP with the newer Mikrotik routers so thanks for pointing that out to me.

I have got some Cambium Wireless AX kit en-route to me to test out and will ask about getting some of the newer Mikrotik kit + UniFi Wireless AX kit. To be perfectly honest I've gone off Ubiquiti a bit these days due to slow development of their EdgeMax line + bugs introduced with their UniFi software.

Quite excited about getting some new enterprise grade kit... The grandstream AP has been rock solid, so i'll keep that for now.

But always had some buyers regret with the GWN7000 router, it reads like great specs and hasn't really let me down at all, but that little excuse for impromptu network hardware purchases!!!

Hi Team

We have moved into a new home and the house has cat 5 LAN ports in each room for Smart TV and in the office we use splitter for a home office set up, this is supported by Ubiquiti UniFi UAP-AC-LITE Dual-band AC1200 (300+867Mbps) Indoor Wi-Fi Access Point, 1 x Gigabit LAN.

The modem router is an ASUS RT AC 5300.

Something is not right as wifi drop outs are increasing and issues with speed, we average 700mbps on a 1000mbps plan but we used to average 950mbps..

The router is 3 years old, do we purchase a new one, if so what do we purchase?

We have 8 LAN connections (TV's and PC/laptop) and around 15-20 wireless connections.

@kiwiyorkie Your main problem is your Asus router - it won't do Gigabit speeds. You've also likely got WiFi enabled on both that and the UniFi.

Have a look at the Ubiquiti Dream Machine as per the OP. You'll be able to pair your UniFi AC Lite to it and have a single network. The Dream Machine can also route Gigabit speeds.
