I have a slightly different question to ask. Who has an ecosystem to give me a single management pane for a router, switch and AP's? An all in one solution, preferably cloud based and/or with an app, either way it has to be mobile friendly.

I currently have an Edgrouter ER4, EdgeSwitch ES-8 and a Grandstream GW7630 AP. All of them are brilliant but are configured and upgraded individually. What vendor out there has a solution for having a router, switch and AP(s) all managed together? Budget is not a major constraint here and like the Ubiquiti gear I have would tend to lean more towards Prosumer or even low level Enterprise class gear.

Ubiquiti Unfi's ?

Router - USG or UDM
Switches - USW's
AP's - Unfi

All managed by a Unfi controller and cloud accessible.

The Edge range from UI can be managed by UNMS but their AP's cant.

Yeah, I've found this whole Edge vs Unifi range confusing. Are you saying the ER4 and Edge Switch can be added to a UniFi controller? And then I could swap out the Grandstream AP for something like a UniFI 6 LR/Lite?

No ER and ES cannot be managed by the Unifi controller. They are part of their ISP line of devices and so they have their own controller called UNMS.

If you switch to using a Unifi controller you will need -

1. USG or UDM router like a USG-3
2. USW switches like a US-8
3. Unfi AP's like a U6 lite.

All of these can be managed by the Unfi controller.

I use Cambium stuff from gowifi. Everything can be managed from the free cloud platform and overall I've been impressed. Switches and WAPs are enterprise grade, though their routers are pretty consumer focussed. The routers are probably more a different product in the same pane of glass than a totally unified experience with the rest of the cloud controller.

I definitely should have bought Unifi products. Have now got myself a UniFi Dream Machine Pro and a UAP-AC-LR. The single pane of glass and IDS/IPS convinced me. The UDMP is a beast and actually great value for the money. Very happy.

There will be an ER4, EdgeSwitch 8port and GWN7630 for sale shortly...

Yup its an awesome device. I'm running one as well and also need to sell my ER4. I have seen speed issues however with the latest firmware on the UDM Pro with PPPoE connections which is frustrating. My 1gig connection drops to ~500 Mbps with IDS/IPS enabled.

Yup its only over PPPoE. What does Orcon use? VLAN10 and DHCP? Good to know!

Probably already asked but can anyone recommend a mesh router (s) set up that supports vlan tagging (2d fibre)?

Picked up a pair of 1st Gen Google Wifi Routers but they don't support vlan tagging and i'd quite like to simplify the set up rather than double nat.

Can't really justify more than 2/300 and don't mind second hand.

Do Fritz!box routers works as Mesh clients when on ethernet, or just when connected via wireless? If they work as Mesh clients on ethernet backhaul - can you set the wifi channels independently for each AP?

Yes other Fritzbox routers support wired backhaul, works nicely
You can disable adopt settings to use different wifi channels, but this kind of breaks the mesh.. if your devices are mostly 5GHz channel utilisation may be less of a concern than faster roaming

I have been using Edgerouter Lite (ERLite-3) with Unifi Switch 8 for years and was actually found this combination from this thread :)
Last night I think my EdgeRouter dying, ping was 70-80% loss but my Switch running fine.

Was about to buy another EdgeRouter to replace my ERLite3 but thanks to this chat now I know why I can't manage my EdgeRouter using Unifi. I probably will go for that Unifi Dream Machine Pro as well.
