@ajc153 I'm no expert in networking but it sounds like you may have a couple of basic configuration problems. Daisy-chaining routers will cause problems on the network unless you disable DHCP and NAT on the down-stream slaves.

The ideal option is to eliminate the extra routers all together. If for some weird reason you can't (and remember lots of other people are running Vodafone TV on simple setups without having the issues you speak of), then for reliability and performance my suggestion is to:

a) Disable DHCP and NAT on the two(?) slave routers so that only one upstream router (closest to the ONT) is doing DHCP and NAT.

b) If you can't disable NAT, then plug the slave routers in the master (the one closest to the ONT) using the LAN ports, not the WAN ports.

Ask a silly question but is your "incompatible with V.F." Wireless AP set to a New Zealand channel range? If it is dynamically changing to a wireless channel that is restricted in N.Z. (such as Ch14) the V.F. TV will loose the wireless connection. You might want to try setting it to stay on channel 1, 6 or 11.

Quick note I only two routers for a couple of days, only the vodafone is running now, maybe have a quick read of my long post with the full history. Im not using the Vodafone TV wireless, its connected with cat6.

Hi, all these VTV disconnection issues, were they not solved when Gen1 were upgraded to Gen2 firmware about 6months ago?, are you sure its not an issue of the firmware not upgraded, and maybe that has happened for you around the same time as you upgraded to the new router, in which case the previous disconnects would have happened with any router.

Hi Cyril, I have had the issues as recently as 5 days ago before I got the new router which was last Saturday. The Vodafone box I have installed now (Gen1), was received in I think November 2019.

Have you thought about trying an Nvidia Shield or something? The Vodafone TV isn't the only game in town.

Yup! you can see why i have been running in circles and trying so many different "fixes".

I thought about changing to Sky, but I also hate them, in fact Im old enough to hate everyone. I havent heard about Nvidia Shield Ill look it up, when I was young and had a go at building my own PC I recall getting an Nvidia graphics card for it though!

I think Voda Gen2 seems to be the more stable product but saying that I think both gens have improved with the newer firmware. Voda have also had the occasional glitch on the CDN side. I think expecting perfection from any IPTV solution is unrealistic.

Interestingly both the Gen1 and Gen2 failed in the same way, saying connection lost, but still able to play recorded TV and Netflix etc.

I certainly dont expect perfection, but once or twice a day having to pull the power cord out and put it back to get it working was a little excessive.

The secret to a happy gen2 is to turn all power management off, so it never sleeps. The only problem then is it appears the frame rate drops from 50 to 25 fps. Change channel back and forward and all good.

Ah ok, thats actually how I had set all boxes to never turn off, I am a bit disabled and end up all night at times so thats how I set it up anyway.

Yeah, we have both a gen1 and a gen2, the gen1 is pretty stable, and they work identical. The gen2 is just wifi capable and going through the menus (loading thumbnails etc) is a tad snappier on the gen2.

Heck, it even turns out the Gen 2 Bluetooth remote can pair with the gen1 (the gen1 is bluetooth capable but comes with an IR remote)

Hi Team,

Ok I have made progress, the "dual" router issue is a red herring, it was only like that for a couple of days so lets park that topic.

Any other router that I have tried doesnt work with VTV, the box drops connection for live TV every day. It works fine with the Vodafone router.

So it looks like a Ubiquiti router config issue?

What settings are ones I should post to help determine if there may be an issue?

Hi, the link @Runningman you refer to is for multicast IGMP proxy support, this is not required with the VTV as it only uses unicast.

As for the edgerouter itself and dropping live TV streams on the VTV, I doubt it is related to the Edgerouter per say as I have seen VTV working successfully on multiple routers, and doing a connection track on one instance which is via a Mikrotik the connections are all very plain and common.

Understood it should work, however both the original Vodafone router, the Asus 5300, and the Ubiquiti all have the same issue killing live TV and tested over 18 months. So the issue is well documented. Only the new Vodafone router maintains a stable service.

I literally had it working for 5 days no issue on the new Vodafone router, changed it to the Ubiquiti to test if its also stable, and within a few hours it dropped out.

Well I have to disagree, I have a number of residential clients all using Mikrotiks and their only TV service is VTV, no issues to report, so clearly "Only working with Voda router" is not correct.
