Problem solved - it was a password problem all along - changed my password (as above) and suddenly "it just works" ... 🙂

Ha, I just went through exactly the same issue setting up my ER4!

I only figured it out by digging into the pppoe0 logs and learning that the broadband password was different to the login, probably would have had it fixed in 5 mins if I had just asked @michaelmurfy...

Actually MM, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to add a quick note to the guide about it.

Time to consult the Oracle, AKA @michaelmurfy, again ...

For the past 2 years I have used this all-Ubiquiti system:

gigabit internet connection > EdgeRouter 4 > Toughswitch PoE > 3 x UniFi AP AC LR WAPs

It worked well.

In a moment of madness I have bought an EdgeRouter 6P, in the hope of combining router and switch functions in one box.

The ER-6P is basically an ER-4 with extra ports (with optional PoE):

Unfortunately, The ER-6P does NOT have a switch chip (I discovered this only after buying it - silly me!)

My problem is how to utilize the "extra" PoE ports for my 3 UniFi WAPs.

I set up the ER-6P using the WAN+2LAN2 wizard, just like my ER-4:

Bridging is OFF, and I get full gigabit speeds from my new fibre connection.

eth0 connects to the ONT
eth1 connects to my LAN via a smart (non-PoE) gigabit switch
eth2, 3, & 4 have (24V) PoE turned on, and are connected to a UniFI WAP
- all light up, BUT only eth2 functions as a WAP.
eth3 & 4 show as "isolated " on the UniFi controller, and do not function.

My question - can I bridge eth2, 3, & 4 without effecting performance on eth1?

If so, how?

@Sideface On this router (note - I have not tested this) bridging is offloaded from memory on 2.x firmware. It may be easier to go via the wizard once again and set it up with bridging enabled.

This is now the same with the Edgerouter Lite and Edgerouter 4.

The ER-6P experiment was a success!

Hardware factory reset
WAN-2LAN2 wizard
Bridge LAN interfaces into a single network
Reboot
Local Bridge > Config > Bridge Interfaces > add eth3 (Local Bridge) and eth4 (Local Bridge)
Enable PoE (24V) for eth2, 3 & 4

The result:

All three UniFi WAPs now connect and work well
Gigabit internet upload and download speeds are excellent and unchanged!
The ER-6P does NOT overheat (unlike the Ubiquiti ER5PoE and ERX-SFP)

First of all, thanks for having taken the time writing this tutorial. I am sure many users have found this very helpful in setting up their ER devices.

However, I am actually really struggling with the most basic configuration of my ER. I have followed the guide but I cannot seem to get Internet working.

Here is my setup:

Nova Energy Internet via Fibre 100/20 -> Standard Chorus ONT where the Fibre link terminates and gets converted to RJ45 -> Ubiquiti ER5PoE

So my intention is to replace their crappy Netcomm Wireless NF18ACV Router with the ER5PoE. I do not seem to get Internet working at all, I am using the WAN+2LAN2 Wizard with DHCP+VLAN10, rebooted several times, re-did the wizard several times, no luck.

For the love of god, I cannot get internet going. I have enabled the offload functionality (even tho at this stage I should have an Internet connection).
After completion of the setup I would have assumed that I am getting an public IP displayed in the Dashboard for eth0.10 but no luck. I assumed it maybe just not be able to be shown for whatever reason but jumping on the CLI and doing a ping to 8.8.8.8 should result in a reply, but it didn't. I didn't even bother trying to reach google.com as I wanted to skip the DNS resolution to see if the most basic Internet connectivity would work

I have ran out of ideas now what else to try. Does anyone else has luck getting Nova Energy's UFB offering running with any of the EdgeRouter devices?
If so, sharing on how would be much appreciated.

Also, I went through the settings of my NF18ACV Router just to see if something funny has been ticked, but it seemed pretty standard to me.
The only thing which stood out was a couple of additional routes, but they might have been added to the router before delivery to the customer to be able to reach some Nova proprietary services?

I have added some screenshots of the Netcomm Router and hope someone has an idea what else to try.

Yes, pretty standard PPPoE VID=10. Correct configuration will help.

While that seems to be all good and well, it doesn't mean that the ER won't work at all.
I am actually one of the lucky ones who can access the GUI of their Netcomm Modem at all. Nova wont let you access the GUI or modify any settings, meaning you have to live with what you've been provided. That is: any LAN settings / WIFI settings ( including SSID's and Secrets printed on the Router ) and whatever other setting they have baked into their "custom Firmware".

Regardless of that, their modem does not seem to do any black-box magic when it comes to establishing the Internet connectivity. I have seen in one of the earlier replies, that the thread owner's parent's are also using Nova as their ISP, so I assumed Nova UFB would have worked with an ER beautifully.

The only thing I can think of is, that Nova has baked something into their Netcomm Firmware which -on establishing of public IP assignment- checks if you are actually using a Netcomm modem with their Firmware. And if not, they won't hand out an IP. (or something along those lines)

Is anyone else here on Nova UFB and had success setting this up? I am fairly certain that this can be done somehow.

Changing the config to PPPoE rather than DHCP is the obvious thing to do, you'll need PPPoE credentials though. As for public IP, there isn't one, as CG-NAT is being used.

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware that Nova is using CGN, but that would explain actually a lot. Also the fact, that they don't let you manage the provided end user device (Netcomm Router).
I will try a few things again tonight to get it up and running, I have a feeling that using PPPoE might actually work. I didn't bother trying much as it wasnt accepting empty username/pw combos, but I have read another post that ANY username/PW combo might actually work.

Fingers crossed on that. I will post an update here if it does.

You could try changing the MAC address (if possible) match the provided netcomm router...

So I have managed to get it working using just any random Username/PW combination with PPPoE over VLAN10. Turns out Nova uses Port based auth for establishing the connectivity.
After I've finished the Wizard, 2 more Interfaces on top of ETH0 have been added. PPPoE and ETH0.10 and I was wondering which one I now consider as my WAN Interface? From my understanding ETH0 is only my dumb physical RJ45 Interface but whats the difference between the PPPoE and ETH0.10 ? is the ETH0.10 my VLAN interface for VLAN10? If that's the case, how does get traffic routed to it as I cannot see any configured Gateway for this Interface.

@RattleZ PPPoE is your interface. The Ethernet and VLAN are the underlaying interface.

So "interface ethernet eth0 vif 10 pppoe 0"

Can you please add an update to the front page noting that if you're moving from a dynamic IP to a Static IP, you shouldn't have to do anything to your config?

Call the ISP and ask them to try to provision a static IP address again and that should solve the problem.

After the hold period was all done in about 5 minutes with very helpful change to a new static IP address, problems all solved.
