@coffeebaron came today and rewired the house to a cabinet in the garage. I'm very pleased.

Inspired by this thread, I installed a rack up the top of one of our cupboards during a recent renovation. I've been a bit lazy and only installed ports I'm actually using at the moment, but will install a few more when I get a chance.

And there is another two cabinets full of patch panels and splitters. One in the attic and another in the home studio.

Lolz, DOCSIS 3, 3.1 and Fibre. Now you just need DOCSIS 2 (SurfboarD)

Finally finished my comms rack off at home.

Big thanks to @michaelmurfy for helping with getting everything running how it should be.

Started from an empty linen cupboard in the hall way to what I have now.

Relocated the ONT in here, New Coax to here, New alarm install in here, outlets from ONT up to rack, then all outlets in an around the house. All CAT6. All outlets scanned, tested and passed on a borrowed Fluke Lan tester (DSX-5000).

In the rack Is the Unifi Security Gateway Pro linked to a Unifi Switch 24 via one of the SFP Ports, then a Unifi Switch 8 60w POE powering the APs and Cameras.  Power rail mounted in rear of rack for all outlets.

Tried to keep it color coded for my own ease of viewing ha, Green is link to POE switch, Purple is from ONT.

Server sitting in another room in house, NAS ontop of rack, Fibaro Home center 2 on top of rack, Nobo Heater control hub on top of rack, and I think there is a Philips Hue hub sitting up there too.

In one photo you can see the earlier setup with a little USG, that was the first setup in rack. Pretty happy with how the install went being a commercial sparky and not a data technician, I think it turned out ok...

Cisco SRP 527

Mikrotik Nightmare

eeePC that's about 14 years old now

New Unifi Dingus wrapped carefully around the coat rail

Most hardware is mounted lovingly on a wooden shelf from Mitre10 that cost ~$18, there's a bit of Blutack on the Mikrotik.

[Yes, this is really my cupboard, I didn't download this from some dodgy site to pass it off as mine, it's actually mine]

Sorry, should load now.  I linked it from Google Photos forgetting it only showed for me as I'm logged in as me.

Enjoy, I guess.

It's amazing what you can fit inside your TARDIS when it's disguised as a cupboard.

No point in showing mine.

I only have the ONT, a 24 port Gigabit switch and an 8 port PoE switch at my "star point".

  • TP-Link Archer C2300 Router and Grandstream GWN7610 are located appropriately.
  • Just sold my (redundant) Ubiquiti Nanostations.
  • I also just sold my Cisco ATA after yet another scam call to my "landline number"

Cable slacks taking up lots of space in my cabinet at my new house.

I am hoping it'll fit an ONT, ER-X and an 8-port switch.
