I am going to Europe and I was needing a backup internet connection in case my first two options failed me - 1. Wireless access, 2. GPRS connection using a GC79 Wireless data card and a pre-paid SIM with data plan from a provider in Spain.

What I have:  Ipaq 6315, USB Bluetooth adapter using BlueSoleil ver. 1.6.1.4 and T-Mobile with International Roaming (Unlimited Internet Data Plan in the U.S.)

I was very frustrated, I couldn't get it to work and 99% of the search results were others asking how to make it work.  The solutions/instructins I found were not working.  I ended up using bits an pieces from a few different instructions.  I am posting this from my laptop using my Ipaq 6315 for internet access connected to T-Mobile on a Bluetooth Dial Up Networking connection.

Here is how I did it.

1. You should have already paired your 6315 and your laptop through BlueSoleil

2. On the IPAQ, Turn on the DUN Service (Dial Up Networking) from the Bluetooth Settings section on the IPAQ.

3. Refresh the connection to the IPAQ in Blue Soleil

4. Click on the DUN Icon in BlueSoleil

5. You will then get a DUN Screen, if something is entered in the Username field, erase this and leave it blank.  Do the same with the password field.

6. The string that is in the Dial field is WRONG! Erase it and use *99#.

Bang!  It should work unless I forgot a step.  If I have, please let me know and I will edit this post.

I hope that I can help others with this info.  I know how frustrated I was!

Thanks for the post, interesting. Readers might have to note a couple of things though:

- the dial-up number can be *99# (most of times), but with some other configurations it can anything from *99***1# through *99***9#;
- a string may be needed to activate the connection, if a different APN is needed. This is in general in the form of CGDCONT=1,,"internet" where [APN] is the APN name to use.

Thanks for your post!

Will anything but "*99#" Work with T-Mobile?  This was the key for me, I had done everything else right multiple times and this was the one thing that made it work.  When I get back from Spain I will try other dialing strings as you suggest.  Other T-Mobile users could save me the trouble with a working 6315 connection on T-Mobile and BlueSoleil.  Try some different dialing strings and post the ones that work and the ones that don't!

Cheers!

I should point out that I have and use 3 different USB Bluetooth adapters that all came with the same version of BlueSoleil.  I got each one for less than $15.00 on Ebay.

If you are using the standard configuration, then *99# will work fine. The other numbers are more likely to be used if you create your own configuration or using a standard mobile phone. For non-Bluesoleil software check our Bluetooth Guides, but the process is very similar.

All of the Bluetooth software currently support dial-up. You just need to pair your PC and your iPaq, open the Bluetooth spaces (right-click the Bluetooth icon in the system tray to find the option), double-click the icon corresponding to your Pocket PC and create the connection from there.

I really recommend you read our Bluetooth Guides, because all those instructions are there. There's a link to the Bluetooth Guides in our menu bar on top as well, alongside to the news, reviews and articles links.

If you have problems, please open another thread.
