I think it is with great regret that I have decided to give up trying to get my Sony Clie TH55 to connect to the internet via my desktop. I have tried every concievable solution that you have all suggested over the past few days, all without success. I can never get past the "wrong URL" in the web browser or Cannot find Host if I try to ping an address.

I'm not sure whether there is a connection because I have also noticed over the last few days that nearly every time an alarm sounds for one of my appointments in my datebook the machine freezes and the only way to get it going again is to soft reset. It is only two weeks old, so I think it might need to go back to the shop.

Before sending it back to the shops... Have you installed any 3rd party programs or hacks (like Xmaster or Hackmaster)?

Also, for the internet connection: are you running any firewall? Isthe DNS servers addresses entered on your computer's Bluetooth virtual network adapter? You don't need them on your Palm, but it may be a requirement on your computer.

Thanks for the reply. I have sorted the hanging problem. apparently it was because when I bought the TH55 two weeks ago, I just HotSynced from my PC and in doing so might have imported corrupt data from the old machine.

As for Bluetooth my firewall is ZoneAlarm (Free Edition). I have reconfigured the settings and even turned it off altogether but to no avail. I have also tinkered with the IP addresses on the desktop, again to no avail. I'm sure I am missing something very basic but I can't see the wood for the trees now.

There's no changes on the IP address on the desktop. Your Bluetooth dongle must be configured as 192.168.0.1 if using ICS. You have to be sure it does not conflict with other addresses in the network (including the ethernet adapter on your PC). The ICS must be established from the ethernet adapter facing the internet to the Bluetooth adapter.

Zone Alarm should be set at medium. Have a look on this guide.

I think I can now safely say that I have looked and looked again at the guides and all of the settings on my desktop and PDA and I still get the same result. Wrong URL or check network settings or if I ping I get cant find host.

Incidetally, I am not on a network. This is a home PC connected directly to the internet.

It really is getting to the stage where I am not going to spend too much more time on this unless I am struck down by some miracle.

Errr, the TH5 has WiFi built-in. Why not ditch the BT dongle (or swap it) for a WiFi adapter? You'll should find getting the net with WiFi is much easier.
WiFi is also a load faster than BT and has better range.

Wi-fi will be faster, but I'm not sure if it's always easier. I had problems configuring a Belkin router and only solved it after a few resets and not less reboots on my laptop. Sometimes it can be a pain too.

Also I couldn't get to my MS Exchange server from behind this router, and the same laptop had no problems connecting when using a Bluetooth LAN Access Point.

Of course YMMV.

Hmmmm, based on the reviews I've read of the TH55, getting onto a WiFi access point is simple. Far simpler than having to jack up a Bluetooth/ICS set up.

The configuration on the Sony Clie side is easy, for both wi-fi and Bluetooth. I've used the UX-50 and it was a breeze.

The problem lies on the Access Point side. Correctly configuring a wi-fi access point can be as hard as configuring the ICS or Bridge.
