I cant connect via bluetooth through activesync on either my Toshiba satellite pro and PDA compaq 3870.

PC Internal bluetooth turned on.

Bluetooth virtual com port for client on port 5

Bluetooth virtual com port for server on port 4

Device trusted

Activesync on PC configure to connect to com 4 (although tried whole range through to 8)

PDA

Device discovered and connected on com port 4

Device set as activesync partner

inbound com port com7

outbound com port com 8

I can connect via cradle no problem. PDA esablishes connection with bluetooth manager on laptop and vice versa. However I am unable to connect via active sync on PDA or Pc. Tried version 3.5 and 3.6 on Activesync.

please help

bal, I'll move this to the Bluetooth forum later...

I've noticed that ActiveSync via Bluetooth will not start if the AS is set to MANUAL. I always have it to "Only upon connection" or "Continuous". How is yours set?

It is set to continuously while device is connected. I was reading other literature on this topic yesterday which pointed me to the windows ce serial port registry key in h key local machine which had the wrong serial port number on. I changed this to my serial com port and activesync worked with bluetooth. However the next day. Settings remained as previous day and bluetooth activesync connection could not be established. Registry key was correct as well. I'm puzzled?

That's interesting... I did not set anything on my serial ports (PPC side) to use the AS via Bluetooth.

I've COM4 on my desktop (SERVER COM) and this on ActiveSync. On My PPC I tap the BT icon and Start ActiveSync. Also I'm sure to check "ActiveSync Partner" in the BT configuration.

But I never had this problem. Mind you I'm using a H3970 for this.

From what you have posted you may want to try this:

Set activesync on your PC to Com 5 on Widcomm 1.3.2.7 this is Local Services tab bluetooth serial port

On your PDA you would want to use Com 8 Note that com port on the PDA does not need to be the same number on the pc. So com 8 going to com 5 is ok. You'll need to start activesync from the Bluetooth program on your PDA.

What PDA are you using, and what device on your PC?

I am having a similar problem getting activesync on bluetooth to work. Have found the following on my machines:

Activesync works on bluetooth to laptop (XPPro SP1 using Widcomm)

Does not work on main PC (XP Pro SP2 using the windows drivers)

The main difference I see is differences on the COM Ports

ie

On the laptop I have 'Bluetooth Communications Port (COM5)' which connects OK

but

on the PC I have 'Standard Serial over Bluetooth Link (COM15)' and ActiveSync does not

recognise these as COM ports.

Any Hints?? Pleeeeasse

In case you are using the WIDCOMM driver with Windows XP SP2, have a look at this thread.

Ok, I'm havbing the same problem, but I'm not having a problem with SP2.

I have an h2215
I have the propper driver.
I have the generic serial port and Active sync connecting to COM 5.
I click on active sync to connect and it turns green like it connecteed, but a window opens up saying that it's trying to connect. and it just sits there. :(
I can connect to the "network access" but I'm not sure what good that does. I can't go anywhere on my computer via that connection.

I'm brand spanking new at this kind of stuff. I could just barely afford to get the PPC, let alone any classes on how to connect. That's the one thing I'm not sure how to do. It seems so complicated. I want to be able to use MSN messenger and IE. I've looked adn I can't find a guide on how to set up my PPC connections and troubleshoot them. I've followedd the advice of several different guides (all seem to say pretty much the same thing) and I'm still not getting connected.

What info can I give you folks about my connection that can help determine where I went wrong?
