We wanted to connect several PDAs (all ipaqs) over Bluetooth using Connect > Join Personal Network. All went fine, I can see other PDAs in the active connections windows.
However, I cannot browse to other PDAs and neither do my colleagues.
Did we miss anything?
Any help is highly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Ferdiyan

It's an interesting question. I've tried creating and joining a personal network, but I couldn't find a native service that would me to do much. Of course you can install a pico http server, or a ftp server on your iPAQ and see from other handhelds, but if you want to share resources (like a shared drive), then I guess you wouldn't find much joy.

So,

if the feature has no use, why did M$ put it in the first place? There has got to be some sort of real life application which justifies them in putting the "Join personal network" option in WM2003.

There are distinct pieces involved on this: Microsoft developed the OS, and provides a Bluetooth stack, but HP is actually using a Bluetooth software from a third party, called Widcomm.

This Bluetooth software provides for Personal Area Networking using the appropriate Bluetooth profiles, and users can actually network the devices. But the OS does not currently provide a service, like File Sharing or Drive Sharing.

To overcome this and if you need to provide access to files on your Pocket PC, there are a couple of web servers (including the freeware picowebserver) for Windows Mobile, and a FTP server.
