Hi guys,
Have just picked up a USB Bluetooth 100M Adaptor. My PC (running XP Pro) and IPAQ PDA seem to see each other, but dont wanna file share, network access etc etc.
Went in to Device Manager and noticed that in Network adaptors there's an exclamtion mark beside the "Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver". I am asuuming that this is at least one of the causes for my problems. Problem is - where do I get said driver? Not too sure what brand my USB Bluetooth adaptor is (says CSR Bluetooth Device, driver provided by WIDCOMM version 1.4.2.8).
ANy help, Ive been at this straight for 5 hours now and still no joy. I have no probs when connecting two of these PDAs in a bluetooth config with each other.

Thanking you in advance,
MARK

Are you able to at least ActiveSync your PDA over Bluetooth?

It sounds like a conflict in your Windows configuration. The Bluetooth network adapter is installed automatically when you install the Bluetooth software.

No the only thing I get the two to do is see each other; file share, net access etc etc seem to all have connectivity dramas. When I look in my network connections folder on PC, there isnt a lidting anywhere for a Bluetooth LAN Access Driver.
Any help?
Thanks again,
MARK

You can only see the Bluetooth network adapter by right-clicking the Network folder and selecting properties.

If you right-click the Bluetooth icon in the system tray, select Advanced Configuration and change to the Local Services tab can you see any services in the list?

If not then you may have a problem with your User Profile on the registry. You could create a new user with Administrator rights, log in with this new user, remove Bluetooth, reboot, log in again with the new user, install the Bluetooth software and reboot. Log in once more with this new user, configure Bluetooth and then try with your old user and see what happens.

Ok freitam I'm a little closer to resolve but ot out of the woods yet!!
I uninstalled and reinstalled the USB adaptor. so all drivers work now. I can get the machine to sync via Bluetooth in ActiveSync, plus file transfer, BT serial port etc. However having probs connecting to Internet (like a lot of people on here!!). Heres what Ive done so far.

Enabled ICS in my network connections (I assume under my internet connection device which is a cable modem)Input the recommended IP details (however I dont have any DNS numbers to use - where do they come from?)

Anyway, when I try to connect to the net with the IPAQ, it goes thru the usual, up to the connection point followed byan error message "Unable to iniatate the bluetooth connection (Error code: 0x81000196)"

Any ideas?
Thank again for your help. You indeed are the epitamy of patience!!

Good stuff so far. You get the DNS numbers if you run CMD and enter IPCONFIG /ALL. You'll see the DNS numbers there.

Also, check this article about the connection problems first.

Well after all the woes Ive had Ive finally managed to get connected (thank you so much for your help with this freitasm!!).
I now have a couple of niggling issues. I cant seem to get MSN Messenger on my IPAQ to connect (input email addy and password, but get a message saying logon failed with this version or something to that effect).
Also, I would like the facility to browse the My Documents folder(or drives for that matter) of my PC from my IPAQ. Is this possible and if so, how?
Thanking you in advance,
MArk

Microsoft has changed the Messenger protocol and authentication, and you can download an update for the Pocket PC from this page.

For browsing shared folders you'll need to use the PAN profile instead of LAP. PAN will require you to have a different configuration. You'll have to manually assign IP addresses on the iPAQ, and it only works with Windows Mobile 2003.
