hi i have just peurchased a new modem the dynalink 770 and i am unsure how to set it up it arrives today hopefully but to i just write downall my past settings and change them or is there an easier way.

my isp is xtra, we upgrading as 502t does not run quickly with 2 pcs connected

you should be able to go here to find out all about your modem here.

login to your modem use the user manual and as long as you remember where to put the .xadsl I always get confused with them usernames and your password, you'll be away laughing.

Most likely reason for 2 PCs slowing connection is a plan with 128 kbps upload speed.

unfortunatley its not comming till monday but i need to know whether you can change the wan ip on it as mum is connecting a vpn and the wan ip has been added to the list and its apparently alot of paperwork to change.

Xtra provide the WAN side public ip address via a DHCP server. You have no control over this and each time the router reboots it will get a different ip address unless you request a static ip address. If you want a static ip address than contact Xtra and request one https://www.telecom.co.nz/form/1,,5208,00.html. You will be charged extra unless on Pro plan.

Once you have a static ip address any router using the appropriate credentials, username and password, will always be given this address.

Correct, it won't change if already on static lease. Only settings apart from username.xadsl@xtra.co.nz and password are PPPoA VC MUX, VCI=100, VPI=0.

Hmm I've just heard the other day that Telecom is supporting PPoE as well not just A would anyone dare to confirm this?
