When I setup my shinny new Ubiquiti Edgerouter 4 last week, I only set it up for PPPOE using IP4 to BigPipe. Since they're shutting down their IPv6 trial I didn't think it would make sense to have a go at using IPv6.

Anyway, every second I see it logging:

pppd[1849]: Unsupported protocol 'IPv6 Control Protocol' (0x8057) received

Alas, I'm still learning this router's "ways", and I can't figure out how to get it to do something more constructive than just repeating itself. Perhaps it will go away when Bigpipe finally turn off IPv6, but I'm wondering if there is something I can do to make the router happier.

Here is how I setup IPV6 via pppoe Unlimited Internet on a ERL3

WAN is on eth0 in CLI do the following:

configure
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth0 host-address '::1'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth0 prefix-id ':2'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth0 service slaac
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth1 host-address '::1'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth1 prefix-id ':0'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth1 service slaac
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth2 host-address '::1'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth2 prefix-id ':1'
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 interface eth2 service slaac
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd pd 0 prefix-length /56
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 dhcpv6-pd rapid-commit enable
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 ipv6 dup-addr-detect-transmits 1
set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 ipv6 enable

set protocols static interface-route6 '::/0' next-hop-interface pppoe0
commit
save (only if it works)

Now from memory Bigpipe uses a prefix-length of /60
I have a slaac for each Ethernet port including WAN as I have Radio's to modem on that

Hope this helps.

These commands seem to have fixed it. Now to figure out some firewall rules to drop everything IPv6

set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 ipv6 address autoconf

set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 ipv6 dup-addr-detect-transmits 1

set interfaces ethernet eth0 pppoe 0 ipv6 enable
