As the title states, my laptop cannot find my Asustor NAS. Running Windows 10, trying to connect via wifi. My iPhone on the same wifi network finds it without issue. I have tried various things using suggestions online but still nothing.

Any other suggestions as to what might be the problem?

Is this a new NAS, that still needs to be set up and configured?

People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.

Keep calm, and carry on posting.

Stu: Is this a new NAS, that still needs to be set up and configured?

It is new, I had configured it via my iPhone. Just managed to get it recognised now. Not sure why but I had to log in to the router wifi and connect to the NAS, following that I could change the wifi back to my Google access points and it remained connected. I don't use the router wifi as the router is out in the garage but we have Google access points throughout the house.

So I am assuming an issue between the router and google access point was preventing me from seeing the NAS from my laptop.

I would say you have two subnets causing one to not be seen by another. Do your laptop get different IP from router and from Google devices?

Yep, agree you have a fundamental network issue due to two routers, you need to move the NAS into the LAN subnet presented by the Google WiFi, currently it sitting in the WAN of the Google WiFi, which is the LAN of the ISPs router.

More importantly, you would be better off getting rid of the ISPs router if you want to continue with Google WiFi, I presume you are on fibre or is it xDSL, if the latter which variant, ADSL or VDSL.

Hi Cyril

I was’t even aware I could run the 1st gen Google wifi units without a router. Are you saying I could connect direct to the ONT?

I think I know why I am still using the telco router, we have a home line service so I believe this is still required.

I don't think you can on the 1st gen but you should really work to make sure there is only one DHCP/subnet in your network, coming from the router.

Hi no you cannot, but a $46 managed switch can fix it for you.

Hi, I personally hate, and I rarely use that word, Google WiFi, if you make any changes make moving it to the rubbish bin top of your list.

What is the best solution, assuming I retain the google access points and the home line service?

If you want to keep the hardware you have then follow my previous advice (which you seem to have ignored) before: configure the Google device to get DHCP from the router, disable DHCP on that Google box and it will act as a switch/access point only.

I think by doing this you lose all mesh capability between the google access points which I think defeats the purpose of having them.
