I have an I Paq 3870 with Bluetooth and Pocket PC 2003 and a Laptop (Sony Vaio A270 with Bluetooth and Win XP Home). My Laptop connects to my home network and my WiFi router has DHCP enabled (as I have other computers on the network). My question is this how do I set up both to enable the I Paq to connect to the Internet via the Laptop? I have tried to search for the I Paq but I get the message "No PAN Devices have been recognised" I have also tried to switch on Internet Sharing on the laptop but this is not possible.

Any help would be much appreciated.

What software is on this laptop? The original Sony Bluespace or something else?

The easiest way if no PAN or LAP is available is to establish ActiveSync over Bluetooth - but this is not possible with the Sony Bluespace software.

I must be a bit slow (in the bluetooth area) but how do I tell which BT software I have?

If you have a Bluetooth icon in the system tray, right-click it and look for the information in one of the menus. Is this an external USB Bluetooth or the built-in one?

Bluetooth is built in to the computer, there is a Sony utility to switch on and off both WiFi and BT. I have looked in the control panel and there are no Devices, COM Ports or Hardware details in there. If I try to turn on the Dicovery in the Options menu it throws an error. And I do not have the Bluetooth Icon in my Network Connections.

This is a very long discussion on Sony Vaio Bluetooth problems. It may not solve your problem, but will tell you what to do to switch the Bluetooth with an external one if you want.

Sorry, but the built-in Sony software is not the best in the world and not compatible with anything else.
