I'm giving up….

PPC Model :HP2210
Bluetooth Model :MSI PC2PC Bluetooth

I've followed your guide to setting up the ICS (good guide btw.) and I'm getting connected to the BT Network Access... I can't seem to access the internet connection!!! ICS connection fails all the times. I try many times to change the Bluetooth adapter IP to 192.168.0.1. However, the connection will disconnect also the main computer log into net. the connection doesn’t work well.

I also do a quick check on the c:\ipconfig , the result as below :

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\ >ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : DearDearServer
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-05-5D-31-B5-D9

Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-10-DC-E9-5D-92

I had try to Ping using the vxUtil program

Result shown :

Total 5, Good 5 (100%) , Bad 0(0%)

I ‘ve try to set a bridge connection between my two adapters. Also fail…

The network connection is fine within my computer and pocket pc. I can view the share folders from my pocket pc. I assume the connection is ok.

What could went wrong on my connection setting?

I've tried fiddling with the Connection settings (Work/Work/Work & setting proxy server etc.)

Any advice? Desperate for answer…….

Very Much appreciated
Lee

Lee, do you have this configuratio in your Bluetooth LAN service?

Also, are you using any personal firewall at the moment?

Do you have a router? Is this connection you're sharing a dial up connection?

Since you say your internet connection stops when the Bluetooth is connected it makes me think you have an IP address conflict. Any other computer with 192.168.0.1 address? What's the address of your computer before you connect the Bluetooth adapter?

You could try again without the firewall. Let us know the results!

Dear freitasm

I have two Ethernet adapters in My PC
1st) Ethernet

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-05-5D-31-B5-D9

2nd)

Ethernet adapter Bluetooth Network:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Bluetooth LAN Access Server Driver
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-10-DC-E9-5D-92

Local Area Connection 2 IP was set to 192.168.0.2
Bluetooth Adapter IP was set to 192.168.0.1

However, the ICS still not successful. Should I uninstall the Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2? Or disable it when I don't use it?

What other conflict would cause the ICS not working? Desperate for help!

ZZZLEE, let's step back and look at this big picture... You're trying to share the dial-up connection, but at the same time are telling me about the Ethernet Adapter #2.

If you're trying to share the dial up, right-click the icon corresponding to the connection to your dial-up provider. You'll see a Sharing tab for this connection too. This is the one you have to share. Give a try with it.

Dear freitasm

My Internet service provider is sharing. With that, i still not able to use the ICS.

I discovered the Widcomm in my bluetooth software version 1.3.1, the Bluetooth Guides indicated must be versions 1.3.2.7 and up, could it be the version is too low to access the ICS? If Yes! Where can I download the latest Widcomm?

Thanks very much on your time! Desperate Bluetooth ICS user.

Dear freitasm

Yes! I had try all steps and guides in the article.

3COM Bluetooth dongles do not support LAN Access profile ( I'm not using this model)

Personal firewall blocking localhost communication (I don't use any personal firewall)

BT adapter on desktop/laptop without DNS entry

BT adapter on desktop/laptop not 192.168.0.1 ( Already Configure this IP )

Other NIC using 192.168.0.1 in your network (routers can give this address, in this case reserve this on the router) ( I don't any router with me )

download VxUtil and try PING www.wired.com to check your connection is ok ( ping is 100% ok )

run welcome.exe from \windows folder on Pocket PC to recreate configuration files used by Pocket Internet Explorer. ( already run )

check that your BT software (desktop/laptop) is configure to "Allow other devices to access the Internet/LAN via this computer", as in the image below (for widcomm versions 1.3.2.7 and up): ( version 1.3.1 )

I really don't know what to do now!!! Desperate help...

I had changed all the IP Address for Ethernet Local ( 192.168.0.2 )and Bluetooth (192.168.0.1), however in the winrouter Lite under the available interfaces Both my Ethernets shown IP (0.0.0.0). what should I set in the packet filter? Desperate for Help!

Below are the setting I have during connection .

C:\Documents and Settings\Lee Yong Heng>ipconfig /all

Windows IP Configuration

ZZZLEE, I see now another adapter:

PPP adapter Doalcom:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 210.195.48.9
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 210.195.48.9
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 202.188.1.5
202.188.0.133
NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled

It seems that this is the one connected to the internet, therefore this is the one you should set ICS from. The Bluetooth adapter has to be 192.168.0.1, and make the spare Ethernet adapter anything but 192.168.0.x (try 192.168.2.1 for it).

Winrouter replaces ICS, so using Winrouter will not make ICS work, but will allow you more control on your network.

freitasm,

I had set my internet connection for ICS. in the TCP/IP properties, should I set Server Assigned Ip Address or Specify IP? If Specify, What should I put in then? I had try to put Specify IP to 192.168.0.3 for internet connection. cannot be log into internet. I'll try to put in the IP address as per your advised.

Thanks!

The receiving side of ICS (the Bluetooth adapter) should be "192.168.0.1". The sending side (in your case a dial up) should be as specified by your ISP, or "Assigned".

To avoid conflicts, if the spare Ethernet card is not used at all, either remove it or change the address to something like 192.168.2.1 (which will not conflict with the ICS).

Remove Winrouter Lite if still there.
