I know this topic has been posted many times, but i have looked and try the guides but cannot solve my problem.

Device - iPAQ 1940 windows mobile 2003

i am not really an expert in network settings n i tried everything (almost) but i can only connect to the internet via bluetooth WITH Activesynch on

Any idea what went wrong?

Bluetooth dongle set to IP 192.168.0.1, 255.255.255.0

Laptop LAN, allow internet share

iPAQ1940 - server assigned IP, all else blank

Thanks in advance

Two things to check first:

  • Personal firewall software - turn it off completely, including the Windows XP one (if using) to see if it works
  • Other devices in your network with IP Address 192.168.0.1 - including the laptop, router, ADSL modem, other computers.

    This is just a start...

    Okay now,

firewall i have checked all r already disabled
i disabled the bluetooth connection, pinging 192.168.0.1 no reply, guess nobody else in the network using this IP

BTW my laptop is connected to a router directly, and in turn connected directly to the internet, everybody else is connected to the router directly (not really a safe setup huh!)

Have you had a look at this guide to check the LAN setup?

I have checked the guide earlier

i noticed that i am missing the following from the guide though

"BT adapter on desktop/laptop without DNS entry: make sure there's a DNS entry on the Bluetooth Adapter, even if you're using DHCP"

well i put the DNS entry (similar to my LAN DNS) but still cannot surf the net ( or do i need diff DNS)

Again surf is good only when activesynch is on - guess i just turn on activesynch when i need to surf the net - errr is there any speed difference?

You'll use the same DNS as your LAN... Browsing over ActiveSync via Bluetooth is roughly half of the speed you can get, mainly because AS will use part of the bandwidth to keep things in sync.

Are you 100% sure there is no active firewalls? The problem you're reporting is almost always related to this... I've seen cases that Zone Alarm was disable but still causing problems.

Yeah like i said my laptop is connected to a router which connects directly to an ISDN modem to the net, i dun see where the firewall except for in my laptop, which is disabled anyway (LAN connection, bluetooth dongle right)

so connecting with activesynch gives half a speed only, guess not good, guess i need to find the answer somehow. Anything else i can check?

U have been helpful even if i cannot get my answer i am still thankful.

found a solution - bridge the LAN and BT in network connections - ie single IP settings, iPAQ need to set with IP as well

yep seems faster than connecting with Activesynch.
