Care to elaborate? The guides work... But specific computer configurations are different.

Sometimes a service is not enabled, the wrong IP address is not entered, there's a personal firewall, other software conflicts, a patch not applied to the Palm TT, the script not entered exactly like the guide shows, the Bluetooth configuration is set to network access not internet passthrough, and the list can go on (you can check the forum for other personal experiences and might even find the answer there).

To help us help you please be more specific. What OS are you using? What are you trying to achieve? How are you doing it? What's missing or what error message?

And please be polite, because this is one user helping another.

If you want Hotsync you'll need a Bluetooth Serial Port service, and for LAN connections the Network Access service.

From your post it's not clear what's wrong:
  • are all the services available on your computer?
  • can the devices see each other?
  • can you pair the devices?
  • can the Palm find the services?
  • have you followed the guide step-by-step, without skipping anything?
  • if the Palm can see the services, and if you've followed the configuration from the guides strictly, are getting a timeout when trying to connect?

There so many things to check, but your answers are needed...

Have a look here for configuring the computer and Palm.

Have a look on this article for things to check including IP Address and other information.

Don't skip any step, they're all important. Don't assume your configuration is good until you've checked everything in these two guides.
