I have just tried to hook up a DSL-G604T Wireless ASDL Router to my Telecom Broadband, and am having a number of difficulties. I have followed the instructions on the settings you are supposed to enter etc. but I can't seem to connect to the internet. When i turn the AP on it outputs a signal fine - but I can't connect to it. I can't connect via the ethernet port to access the internet on my desktop either! Help anyone? Do I need to make some changes to some settings?? - help would be greatly appreciated!!

Can you access the router management interface across ethernet? Generally it is on 10.1.1.1 user/password: admin
From the management interface you can see what the router is doing i.e. connected to exchange, connected to internet
Don't forget your username for broadband must be [xtra username].xadsl@xtra.co.nz

Is your PC setup on the network connection to 'obtain IP address automatically'.

Yep - I do have access to the management interface. I set the username and password correctly - and the desktop is setup to obtain the IP address automatically.

In the status section of the interface it basically says that nothing is connected!

I would say that is your problem. Do you have a line filter on the wall phone socket? Do you have the router plugged into the correct socket on the line filter?

Yes - I do have the unit plugged into the correct socket. I can swap this router with my original wired ASDL box - plug that into the PC and it works fine. I wouldn't think that the two should be that different (wired parts of the unit anyway!).

Ok, well logic would say that your doing everything right which means that you possibly have a stuffed router. I have the same router as you and all I did was put in the username/password, plug it in and off it went.

Yeah - something dodgy is going on. I just set my AP to be encrypted (just WEP - trying to see if it works), but each time I apply the changes, then power cycle the unit - it says that it is no longer secure. The settings aren't holding - so I think something might be funny with the router!

If it's a Telecom/Xtra wireless router, then yes - there is something funny with them.

I installed one at the weekend and found it to be very troublesome.
Because I was installing it for a friend (and not myself), I actually used the supplied installer and followed the instructions - rather than jumping in and manually configuring it.

After the "installation was complete", I found that it had ignored my WEP settings and swapped to using WPA.
When I went in manually (and adjusted the SSID and swapped it back to WEP), I found that it wouldn't hold the settings between restarts. From memory I kept hitting "Apply" a few times after I changed each setting and that seemed to help!

To get the settings to stick - I found the best this to do is (after hitting apply) - is to go to the Status - System - and then hit Save Settings and then on the same page reboot the Router.
