Hello, Geekzone forum

Well i just purchased a Linksys E2500 got home put the installation CD in connect the modem to the router and then used an Ethernet cable to connect the router to my PC(pc doesnt have a wireless card, using the router for my laptop, which is in shipping at the moment) followed the Instructions, completed the set up and then at the end when it reached 100% and was finished it said it was installed but said it could not connect to the internet. But when i go to my network settings it says my internet is connected and When i try my PS3 it says obtained ip address succeeded, internet connection failed.

I am using Windows Xp service pack 3, my modem is a Motorola SB5101 cable modem and my ISP is Telstra clear

So i am hoping that someone will be able to help identify what is the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

How was your previous connection to the Internet? Just the PC connected directly to the modem?

The WAN port in your new router must be configured with the static IP address (and gateway, netmask and DNS) provided by TelstraClear.

If you had the PC only connected to your older router, then you need to make it "dynamic" to get the new LAN configuration from your router.

Depending on what you were using for your router in the past you'll also need to wait for up to 15 mins for it to work on TCL cable once you hook up a new router. Only a single MAC addresses can be bridged to the cable modem at any time, and the ARP table is flushed every 15 mins or so.

I was told a few weeks ago by a TCL technician that this limit is now up to ten MAC addresses. But it's always a good idea to turn the router off, wait 15 minutes and then try again, just in case.

Thank you for reply,

My previous connection to the internet was just Modem to PC by Ethernet cable. This is also the first time i have ever used a router at my own house always just been modem to PC.

Ok, in this case:

1. Take note of your PC's IP address, netmask, gateway and DNS. These were supplied by TelstraClear.

2. Change your PC network to use automatic IP information.

3. Change your router WAN configuration to use static IP information and enter the data collected in (1).
