I have travel adapters, but dislike using them especially for "permanent" devices like this, was hoping for a neater solution :)

Output of the adapter is 16.5 V at 2 Amps if it helps. Cheers.

According to the Google specs page the power adapter works with any input voltage, so all you should have to do is cut the plug off and replace it with a local one. You can't ask for a neater solution than that.

It's a wallwart so cant cut the plug off.

That's what I've done with some items in the past (or even better when a standard "figure 8" cord fits into the adapter) but looking at photos of the google home it looks like it's one of those silly power supplies where the plug and power supply are all one unit molded together?

Yes, and both are quite large around the pins and more flush to the wall, so extend outside the typical death-dapter travel adapter to make outlets on both sides on a normal powerstrip unusable.

Did you end up ordering one from dick smith? I'm curious what power supply they send it with; I see on their site they note it's a "direct import\international" product, but are they legally allowed to sell items with foreign plugs?

Not sure how it works since they are personal imports when sold there, how different is it to me ordering a crappy thing off aliexpress as a personal import?

Havent managed to do anything about the $3 powerstrips which IMO are a much greater risk with their inability to hold plugs and then get hot.
