It's the nature of ebook publishing & I'm not sure Amazon has much to do with it. Publishers that use the Adobe Digital Editions lock-in are even worse (looking at Whitcoulls NZ & Kobo here). DRM is only a problem for those of us who play by the rules & the sooner publishers wake up to how much harm it does, the better.

At the end of the day though, the Kindle is a really good ebook reader and its up to each of us to decide whether we wish to buy books through Amazon or not. There are loads of free ebooks - Kindle reads .mobi - so nobody has to deal with DRM if they don't want to.

Arrrrrgh, Ive lost my Kindle DX!!!!!!

Ive looked on Amazon site and I need to deregister it. If I purchase another one and find my old one they will accept return of new one in orig packaging etc.

I have rung our contents insurance and they will cover it, less $250 excess.

I had it out the front of the house on Saturday showing a friend who was sitting in her car, gave it to my son to take back into the house, havent seen it since. I thought it would be around so didnt panic over the long weekend. Have hunted everywhere for it today, will be drilling the kids this afternoon when they get home from school. Friend who was in the car will also be asking her daughter (whom I was showing it to).

Damned shame it cant be "tracked". There is a slim chance myself or my son put it on the back of our car then later that night drove off with it on the car :(

Devastated :(

Sorry to hear that :(

On another note, can any Kindle users that use Calibre tell me if there are any news feeds from NZ news websites that work with the Calibre features of pulling the daily news and emailing it to your Kindle to pick up via WiFi?

Calibre has a help file on helping people make other sites work. You are technical. Why haven't you made it work? :p

And which model do you have? I didn't know you had one Rafa.

I've got a 6" Wifi-only. I use for Ars Technica and Engadget delivery. They work fine. I've tried NZHerald but didn't like the output.

And as to 'making it work', I'm busy with my NAS at the moment. ;)

Welll......cant be found anywhere.

Have put through the claim with insurance company. Its going to cost me around $350 to get a new one as insurance excess is $250 and also have to pay for friend to post it to me from the US.

Last time I had it sent to a friend in Aussie (DX's of course cant be sent to NZ). This time I have purchased it through my US Amazon account so it will be sent to my friend in the US, then he is going to send it as fast as possible to me :) While I was at it I also purchased the little clip on light for reading at night.

Er you can get the kindle shipped straight from amazon to NZ.. only takes 3-4 days.

You have to look for the "Kindle (latest geneation)". Check our Amazon Kindle order page.

You have to look for the "Kindle (latest geneation)". Check our Amazon Kindle order page.

The Kindle DX isn't on that page......
