ShellNZ: Nope, must be blind as a bat :( Still cant see it.

Can someone post the link to page on amazon?

Because the Kindle DX is not available for New Zealand, only the Kindle (Latest Generation). That's why I posted a link to that page, where it's listed, ready to click, going to the page to the correct models.

ahmad: Will respect, your post just confirmed to me how crippling the DRM system on the Kindle is for the end user.

You can always go for a cheap alternative, but without the hundreds of thousands of books available...

You aren't blind. DX doesn't ship to NZ. At least not directly from Amazon. End of story.

Yep, got my first Kindle by sending it to friend in Aussie

Got replacement Kindle (when I thought mine was gone forever) sent to friend in US who then sent it on to me :)

Was $75 from Aussie to NZ and it was $75 from US to NZ, interesting eh :)

Im currently selling the brand new one on Trademe, but saying its a friends, as owning 2 I thought might look a bit dodgy, lol. I will be telling the new owner (granted its sold) the true horrifying story of my loss, lol.

Shell's request for a link to a page on Amazon was in direct reference to the DX.

Yikes, "Expected to ship in 7 to 9 weeks"

Bang goes that idea for Christmas.

That's the WiFi only model. The 3G + WiFi is available. Note you don't pay anything for 3G delivery - it's already in the price paid per book. It's more convenient - I have one and don't have to worry where I can use my Kindle.

I check prices online, I find a book at the book store and can immediately get it on my Kindle (paying a third of the price usually) and more...

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

I checked both links from your kindle page (wifi, and 3g+wifi versions)

Both resulting pages say "7 to 9 weeks" to ship. Yikes 79 weeks! ;-)

I think if you go to the non-nz pages you get in-stock, it is only the NZ specific pages which say delay.

Oh, I see now both have the delay. Perhaps I had a cached version before... I still stand for the 3G+WiFi option though ;)

So is Amazon the only way to get Kindle at present?
Im off overseas for 6 weeks in 20 days and I wanted to get a kindle for when i was away.
Not keen to wait 7 to 9 weeks. Im too impatient :P

Is there any truth that JB Hifi may be getting the kindle in soon?
Would love to see it in stores

I needed one quickly too - you can get one off a guy from trademe. only 240NZ which is roughly the same to what the cost landed in NZ. I think 139USD + SHIPPING (plus 4 weeks wait currently) PM if you want his details

I'm quite interested in the kindle, but I don't usually buy books. I have always just loaned books from the library. I guess there's no kind of book 'rental' for the kindle?

Are there many free ebooks available online?

There's lots of free books online. You can get legal ones from Project Gutenberg and there's a bunch of authors who offer their stuff free online.
http://crash.ihug.co.nz/~howellg/main.html is a good start :)
