I received a response from Weatherflow overnite - with an apology for the delay, about the error in the Barometric pressure reading -

Your Tempest employs a calibration and quality control system that we call, Continuous Learning. Certain data, such as RH, temperature, pressure, and UV data is analyzed by this quality control process and a calibration adjustment is applied to the measurements if necessary. This is a great feature that will automatically apply calibrations as needed and keep instrument readings accurate for the long term as well - it can just take a few hours after a new station is brought online for the algorithms to run.

@Niscoupe - hopefully your unit has now corrected itself, based on the above response and how my unit behaved although it took 48 hrs.

Yep, everything has come right and all readings are identical to our other station. Just haven't had any rain yet but most impressed with the rest..

Are these algorithms run on the device or on the WeatherFlow (Tempest) server and the update fed to the device?

And the response from Weatherflow is

The continuous learning process is run on our back end servers and pushed to the Hub. At the current time the quality control alert is just a placeholder. Our plan is that it will notify you on a variety of things related to the data being collected from the Tempest device and I believe it will work with data from the continuous learning process.

I also queries the function of the Quality Control switch in the App, and looks like it doesn't do anything at the moment.

Thanks for the reply. That's kind of what I expected.

Pretty trick. I wonder what other data they're using in the back end to refine the data from your device and what the chances are of that data of skewing your "corrected" data away from the what the true measurements are?

Well after 11 days of faithful service my Tempest died this morning. Last night the battery voltage dropped suddenly, measurements were way off (-20 degrees outside apparently), and there were notifications of the sensors failing. Over the course of a couple hours the voltage increased to a level where it was able to operate again, but this morning it happened again.

I’ve followed their troubleshooting steps but it doesn’t even turn on now, no LED lights come on, it’s just dead.

I’ve contacted customer support so hopefully it’s a fairly straight forward process to have it replaced.

Hope the rest of you are enjoying yours!

There was no problem with a replacement being sent, I was having range issues and loss of pairing (ie moving it closer didn't allow it to reconnect without adding it again as a new device, and it would stop sending data at 80m line of sight when they advertise up to 300m range.) They do want the original shipped back using the cheapest available method and they will reimburse the cost.

The downside is I originally ordered using UPS and received it in 7 days. The replacement is coming via USPS and so far it has been 15 days (Florida, San Francisco, Tokyo, and then departed Tokyo 7 days ago and is still in the air!  Upside is the original weather station is temporarily 25m away and working OK. Unfortunately its in quite a sheltered area so when a neighbour called to ask what the maximum wind gusts had been that had just taken out 8 mature 30m macrocarpas and artificial wind cloth over their orchard I had to report a maximum gust of 25km/h!

I was wondering where that lightning grounded last night...

Bugger. Hopefully they come through with a solution (replacement) soon.

Haha! It was about 20 minutes after that 1-5km notification that it went haywire, maybe it juiced it up too much ha.

I bit the bullet and ordered a Tempest, just wondering if anyone had any troubles with it getting through Customs, etc? I've been watching the track/trace and it landed in Auckland on Sunday just been but hasn't moved from there however UPS notes a delay in transit.

Not for me.  Ordered 23 Aug; delivered 30 Aug!!  Barely had time to bother checking tracking (hadn't expected quite such rapid delivery) :-)

Did you get this sorted? Mine is doing exactly the same thing.

Yeah it was very easy. My message to them outlined everything that had happened and what I'd done to try and fix it, and their first reply to me was that they were going to send a replacement, rather than trying to troubleshoot. That was sent the same day but is still in transit so I don't have it yet but the process was pretty quick. I'm guessing that because they can check your system from their end they can tell if it's fixable or if it needs to be replaced with a new unit.
