My Dad ordered yet another one yesterday via the referall link. Delay in shipping is a pain! Not here in time for Christmas. It must be super popular...

No I just ordered it through amazon, so pretty sure it will be the US version.
I was in a hurry to get it before Christmas and didn't really think about the different versions which was pretty silly of my.

Do you think the 3G will still work in NZ with the U.S. version?

Thanks for the info. I got it for my mum so I'll point her towards this site.

Sorry to be a pain but do you know why there is an international version and U.S. version?
I know NZ and the US have different power cords but if it comes with a USB what's the diff.

An update - I went ahead and ordered the Kindle 3G plus a case and had them shipped to a friend in San Francisco. He re-shipped them to me via USPS Express. The order was placed on 1 December and arrived in Christchurch THIS MORNING. 8 days - awesome!

Plenty of time to wrap it up and put it under the tree, or maybe I'll have a wee play first...

I thought that (at least for earlier versions of the Kindle) the 3G for US models only worked on a certain network for 3G in the states (AT&T?) and therefore may not work internationally depending on the frequency of the network?

Rappelle: I can't personally see myself reading a book on a device like this. Books will always be best.

Books are great but for several reasons I do like such devices.

- no manual page turning so it can be easily done single handedly
- no trouble laying books flat for handsfree reading
- have a library in your hands which may be more convenient than carrying a set of books

One thing I dislike though is that it is definitely more cumbersome flicking between sections of a book if I find myself having to review a previous section.

OK, I couldn't resist having a look inside the box:
- 3G works fine, although Wi-Fi is faster (I'm in Voda 2100 coverage at my house)
- It comes with a USB cable plugged into a USB charger (US pins). It looks to be 100-240V so should work fine using a travel adaptor for kiwi sockets (I'm using an Apple iPhone charger right now)

It's gonna be hard to pack it back up and wrap to put under the tree...

Thanks Krusta, that's good news, I was so worried it wouldn't work here.
Mine's been dispatched from Amazon and on it's way to a US company that will ship it to an aussie address, which hopefully will arrive by the time I leave to go to NZ for Christmas!

My mum better like it after all this!

I am looking at buying one of these for my wife and ordering via the Affiliate Link.

There are some reports on a US forum that the letters wear off the QWERTY keyboard after only a few months use. Has anybody with a Kindle 3G or WiFi version experienced this?
