FYI, Fishpond now has Chromecast available to buy (MF, GZ aff link if you will?).

They also have the Pebble Watch if you're looking for one.

The pebble watch price gave me a fright. It is $150 USD with free worldwide shipping so a bit of a price difference there. Chromecast price is not too bad.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

There is a custom ROM available for CC. I am just flashing it onto mine currently.

I have two of them if you want to borrow one. The flash went fine and everything works but haven't had time to play much with it yet.

Thanks... I see the flash works on exploitable devices - I guess mine is not anymore since it's been plugged since the start so it must have been upgraded.

I will think about borrowing one. Will let you know.

Anyone know if it's possible to change the iptables on a Telecom VDSL modem TG589vn?

I'm thinking of ditching Sky for Netflix via my chromecast.

Just announced, new apps:

Just in time for the holidays, 10 new apps have been added to the Chromecast family. Beginning today you can enjoy action sports, news, music videos, and more with the addition of VEVO, Red Bull.TV, Songza, PostTV, Viki, Revision 3 and BeyondPod.

And for those many holiday gatherings, you can also cast your personal media straight to your TV using Plex, Avia, or RealPlayer Cloud apps. There’s no need to huddle around small screens when you can share your own photos and videos using your phone, tablet, or laptop.

Interesting about casting your own content now... Shame is RealPlayer.

I got all excited when I saw the plex casting. After downloading an updated version of the app I see you need plex pass which is paid subscription.... sigh...

I have a separate wifi router that runs DD-WRT and supports iptables. So my Netflix devices - chromecast and mobile phone - are both connected to the same wifi.
I'm using unblock-us to get a US IP.

I purchased a ChromeCast thru one of the NZ daily deals a couple of months or so ago, but haven't even unwrapped it yet :-(.

Should it be updated when I plug it in to the network, or just leave it be, and see what the new ROM does ?

Judging by the lead time when I purchased it, and time elapsed since arrival, it may not be totally locked down ?

Check the numbers on your chromecast to see if it's got the updated firmware.

I'm going to hack mine soon, I'm waiting on the powered USB cable needed for the hack.

You can use one of those cables that comes with some 2.5" HDD's that has 2 male plugs on it to get the power from a charger into an "out" port of a cheap USB hub and that will then power the chromecast thru the micro SD host adapter cable.

Had no luck when I tried to do mine earlier, and since they now say plex supports it I may not bother to be honest.

Team Eureka have released a new ROM with some very nice features. I can now cast from my phone using Allcast and Avia, haven't tried anything else yet. Also having a play with the Web interface which is straight forward.
