magu: Nice cover! Too bad they won't deliver to any address in NZ I have on file. And don't want to pay BuyUSA $30 to get it here.

It's not a problem for me as I have a son living in the US Cool

DX have some great products, and the prices are very sharp too.  But they are often very slow to deliver, taking 4 to 6 weeks in some cases.  Amazon will have this out to my son by the end of next week.

Well, it is free shipping :P I usually get the stuff about 2 weeks after I get the email saying it's been sent.
The longest wait I had was 3 weeks.

I liked the DX one. Saw it before. But this one on Amazon looks nicer.

I am about the order the 3G Kindle (in case I am ever in hospital and can order books using 3G).

Have scrolled through all 18 pgs of chat about the kindle and most of my questions have been answered, but still need to know, please:

- Is it worth buying a cover from Amazon?
- Is it best to buy a recharger from Amazon, or can you get one from Dick Smiths?

If you buy an Amazon cover, don't take the leather non-light one - they cause problems due to using metalic hooks into the side of the Kidle - the slots are used to supply power to the light one, so they may short. I have one and never had this problem, but there are reports.

As for recharger, I am using a Logitech wall charger that came with my mouse, and sometimes a normal wall USB charger from Dick Smith. The Kindle comes with a USB cable so you can just plug it to the wall chargers if you want.

If you want the lighted one, maybe. Otherwise save yourself the $35USD and buy one from dealextreme. (Where they're ~$10USD). See https://cdn.geekzone.co.nz/imagessubs/blogbb5c75cceda6928e2d51cceda18ff29c.jpg

Do those strap hold the Kindle tightly? I've been considering getting one from DX as well.

Yep! I've had no problems at all with it, the magnetic clasp thing even works pretty well. I have no problem just throwing it on the couch while standing up, or occasionally onto the floor.

The straps (at the top corners) hold it well in place.

Who has bought a case with a light, and is it worth having, or is it just another gimmick?

I purchased the leather case and clip-on light separately, not the built-in one.  Im very happy with it :)

Where'd you get the clip-on light from? Which case was it?

Me, and its absolutely the best thing I could have done. The cover is sturdy (it saved my Kindle when it was dropped from shoulder height onto concrete - twice) and there's no sign of any issues at all with the hinges. I usually read in bed with the cover turned back and the bend doesn't put any strain on the hinges.

The light is used all the time. It's great in low-light situations and really comfortable at night in bed when theres no other lighting on. I also like the convenience of having it all built-in.

The light itself is kinda weird - it provides a really comfortable reading light without giving eye strain, yet is bright enough to use like a torch (which I do most nights to walk through the house at night). When reading in bed the angle keeps the light just on the Kindle so anyone else in the room wouldn't be affected by it.

The only complaint I have with the cover is that the elastic that slips over the cover to hold it fastened could be thicker. It stretches out a bit over time.

I got the leather bound case just not with built-in light.

I got this light.....http://www.amazon.com/LightWedge-Clip-Reading-Light-Kindle/dp/B002VEC47A/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=fiona-hardware&qid=1296159070&sr=1-8

I dont have any issues with the clips and the cover well and truly saved my Kindles arse after it was put on the boot of my car and fell off at approx 70kph around a corner :)  Only had a lil scratch on bottom left corner.  Unbelievable.  Also unbelievable that it was handed in to police station.
