I caved and ordered a Kindle 3 (3G) a few days ago using the GZ affiliate link. It was in the country on Thursday (DHL tracking), but it still hasn't been delivered yet :(
A bit of a bummer - here's hoping for a Monday delivery!! :)

Anyone else had an issue with a sticky power slider with the K3?  Mine starting attacking up a few weeks ago.  Finally attacked it with contact cleaner after reading a few posts about it on mobiread, seems to be fine now.

This morning I received my Kindle 3G+WiFi and a nice blue leather cover with light - both ordered from Amazon, (used the GZ link).
Very quick delivery - I only ordered it last Wednesday.

Very happy with it, although using it takes a bit of, well, getting used to.
I find I struggle a bit with the concept of "place". I.e. with a physical book you have all those tactile references as to where you are in the book: size of the wedge of pages read vs still to read.
I kinda miss that in the kindle. of course the progress bar on the bottom, and the fact that it starts up exactly where you left off is very cool.

Also getting used to the re-sizing of pages to fit the 6" screen.
Not so happy with the screen flickering black/white when turning pages.

Loving the clarity of screen/image, and the very fast on/off response.

kind regards Andrew TD

eInk works by completely refreshing the page's content - that's flickering. Once the page is redrawn no more power is needed to keep the image on it. That's why battery life is great. I too used to think it strange, but it's not that bad.

The black/white flickering is part of the whole eink thing, every eink device does it.

Yes - that makes sense, and I'm sure I will get used to it.

I saw an article today (I think in the DomPost) that talked about a new website that is trying to leverage / facilitate the ability to lend kindle ebooks.
But it appears that NZers can't lend their books, due to amazon/publisher imposed restrictions - no lending for users outside the US, and only then if the particular book publisher allows it. :(

After I ordered my kindle, the only element of buyers remorse that I suffered from was the realisation that I wouldn't be able to lend ebooks that I had bought to friends.

kind regards Andrew TD

Assuming you link a NZ address to it :)

yes, I had that.
After a bit of googling followed the advice to just quickly turn the kindle of and on about twenty to thrity times and the button frees up.
I did this a month or so ago and has been good since then.

Yes. You can use wifi from anywhere in the world, provided it is B or G.

It also can't connect to WPA2-enterprise networks. Not sure how prevalent that is.
