If I hadn't ordered two from B&H for less than this shipped, I would have definitely gone in and picked one up.

Does the standard GH have a line out to connect a decent stereo to? If so then you can get great sound without needing a GH Max, if not then there is always the Chromecast Audio that you could connect to a good stereo.
My GH & a Chromecast are already sitting at my Shipito address in Ca, some other packages will arrive this week and I'll have some new toys to play with in time for Xmas.
I have a GH Mini on the way, I'm thinking that it could be truly portable if powered from a USB power bank, as long as it is in range of the WiFi of course.

Chromecast is an option, but our stereo is rubbish. Plus, I'm keen to have a smart speaker in a few rooms. Will wait to see what the audiophiles think of the sound / bass quality before buying.
I was at Mountain View (Google HQ) a few weeks ago and received a Google Home Mini and Chromecast amongst other things.
I am pretty impressed. It recognised by Hue bulbs straight away and can do something like.
"OK Google, turn Downstairs lights off"
"OK. Google, play Heavy Metal on youtube on Downstairs TV" and TV will turn on by itself and play Heavy Metal Music Videos within a few seconds on the TV
When finished.
"OK. Google, Turn all lights off"
"OK Google, Turn Downstairs TV off"
and I can go to bed.
The Home Mini (due to its size) its Audio output is not as good as the Home's Audio but still very good can play music with no problems at all.
Dingbatt: I'm hoping the intercom broadcast feature is available in Australia (website says it is) so I can use it throughout the house.
it works for me in nz. DO NOT TELL YOUR KIDS ABOUT THIS FUNCTION
also it seems google have gone to more efforts to lock down the additional GH services. you used to be able to change language settings to US and that would bring up the services menu in the home app, where you would find autovoice, august, tile, and other third party services. but language change doesnt seem to work anymore ... but you still can use services, if you link them through the GH itself
example. if you have a tile pro, you can ask GH to talk to tile, it will ask you if you want to link. then once linked, you can ask google to tell tile to find your keys (better to shortcut "find my keys" obviously). previously it was easier to link in the home app
google will also find your phone if you ask it to - no tile needed. does it natively. very cool
also sorry for the consecutive posts but if anyone is able to grab a coral GH mini i will swap for a sealed box chalk mini and forever be in your debt

I think its now location based of the GH and language of the app... some weird combo. I just used the ipad to do it as i set the region and language of the ipad to US, and set the GH to some address in New York to enable some features like multi user. Ive left the home location to new york but the apps are set to AU and works fine. Broadcast is pretty funny from my phone to the kitchen while at work.
I wish the mini had that play/pause button working on the top though as sometimes its just a pain pausing whatever its doing when other people are there. A google home show would be awesome too or some what to send info to the google home app on an ipad (i.e. cooking)
If anyone is interested, B&H Photo Video still have their Mini's for $29USD and now also have a special on the original Home for $79USD. Both of which are really good pricing - the Original Google Home is $50USD off and equates to roughly $115NZD
