Lounge renovations finally underway, so I've now grabbed some bulbs from LimitlessLED. Got 3 of the smaller 6W RGB+WW for the wall lights, and 3x 9W RGB+WW for the to-be-installed central lights and an existing corner lamp. I was going to go with the dual white, but the big kid in me couldn't go past the colour option. Decided just to run these off a remote for now.

Ordered Monday, dispatched Thursday and waiting for me today. Bulbs look good, with the only niggle being the 9W has quite a large base once you get past the metal bayonet fitting. Had to swap out the screw 'sleeve' on the lamp to allow the bulb to fit.

Pairing was simple, and the kids - and me - have already had fun playing. The new light fittings go in next week, so for now we have a green bulb in the toilet for night-time navigation :)

Has anyone tried the GU10s yet? We're fitting a new 3x GU10 bar in the kitchen as well, but can't imagine we'll ever need anything but cool white in here. Happy to be convinced otherwise though...

looks like gearbest have just added a range of these on their site. Thats another source of them other than aliexpress or DX.

Thanks richms, although, they are actually on over 100 retailers sites that I know, many of them our retailers and distributors. leaving some of them out is hardly fair. people are better off just using google.

Is there any difference between GU5.3 and MR16 lamps? looking at changing interior lights to led's (possibly wifi) and the current lamps are GU5.3 are these normal for NZ?

gu5.3 is normally a 12v one (there are some bastard 230v ones that are not legal here last I looked) - 12v gives much better light on a halogen as the filiment is smaller so the beam can be controlled more, and they can operate hotter so you get a whiter light compared to the 2700k orange of a mains powered lamp, and better efficiancy.

Hotter means they are a true halogen with the halogen cycle happening, so better bulb life unlike the GU10s which are basically a small normal incandesent.

However it means you need a transformer or other power supply to run them off the mains. The electronic ones have all sorts of compatibility issues with different LED replacements so IMO its best to either verify your transformers will work with a small order before going crazy ordering a whole house lot with, or else replace them with GU10 so that you are providing 230v straight to the lamp. Many times electronic transformers will overheat or oscilate when driving a LED which has its own power supply inside it. Noone in their right mind will guarentee any LED 12v lamp will work on anything but a magnetic 12v transformer unless they specify an exact power supply combo.

GU10 holders on a wire with a little junction box on the end were really cheap when a friends swapped the house out for GU10 to get LEDs installed. ebay listing 130895935871 looks like the ones we got, cant be sure if it was that seller or not however. The terminals on all of them are pretty crap and 2 pieces of 1.5mm wire are a challange for them, which the sparky hated.

Thanks for the reply, discovered a lot of this info this morning from sparkies at work (work for an elictical wholesaler) , have gone an ordered a 9W,12W and 15W from AliEX as a test run.

If it is a 12V DC, we now have 1/2/3/4 channel controllers available on the website that use the same 2.4Ghz remotes and 2.4Ghz wifi bridges, so you can feed the transformer DC output into our controller, and then out the other side to the GU5.3 or MR16. up to 72Watts max. per channel.

I have these, they are quite a bit longer than a standard GU10, so if a standard GU10 fits flush, these will protrude. This wasnt an issue for my fittings and I am very happy with the beam spread

And it was just a few lines to turn the lamp on using my Windows 8.1 tablet

Wonder if anybody has a memory dump or firmware binary file for the milight v4 wifi controller. I bricked it and the wifi part is working but its not communicating as it should. I assume some part of the firmware is blank and I would need a source to configure it back up.

Doubt you will find that easily. But if you do I assume that some disassembly on it would reveal all that is needed to build a decent one with more than 4 lamps.

LimitlessLED: I just got a new Macbook Pro with xcode6.1, and I am reprogramming a new version of the LimitlessLED and Milight apps (yes I am also programing the equivalent on android and windows and windows phone). I would like some opinions on one thing I am stuck with...

When you first open the app, I was thinking of having a menu/summary screen with 3 large images: Scenes, Lights, and Triggers/Alarms. with a counter showing how many of each are available, just like instagram.

OR

would you prefer for the app to just take you straight into the scenes screen, where you can pick an item from your scrollable list of preset scenes. or lights screen, or triggers screen, or last opened screen?

Could always just make it an option tucked away in the settings. Can see pros/cons to the different options.
