Very good spotting, I hope its not a stuffup on there part like they have a history of doing. I could believe that discount in AU, but here its almost down to the black friday USD prices converted so probably a mistake since nothing is ever cheap here.

It better not be a stuff up. I now have an order confirmation from JB for 2 Dots for $99 so that’s what I’m expecting.

I just looked up on my Amazon history my dot was $29.99 USD and my you shop postage was $17.60 NZD would roughly cost me $58 NZD and my Echo would be $160 NZD total , so the Echo's are a good price the dots not so much compared to what i paid

As posted above, if the JBHifi bundle of $99 for two Dots proves to be legit, it would work out to be a near 15% saving on your Amazon US deal (including youshop delivery). I’d say that would make them a very good price.

The two-for deal on the Echo Dots ($99) makes them almost the same price each as I paid for one in the Black Friday sales while in the US ($NZ49.50 vs $NZ46). Plus they will have the correct power supply, effectively making them cheaper.
I can't imagine they will sell so well that they need to be pre-ordered though.

Apple better hurry up with their Homepod or they will be like the party guest that arrives after the cake has been cut.

The Apple speaker will sell in big numbers no matter how it's implemented. The ecosystem and brand will ensure it. The iPhone X is a good example of that.

Both the echo and Google Home are reasonably device agnostic so the race to fill homes is only going to speed up

So what would I use an Echo Dot for ? I've got a grand total of one Echo which is moderately useful, but I'm not into home automation and the kids have bluetooth speakers anyway.

Can it be used as an intercom ? might be useful at dinnertime when the kids bedroom doors are closed - you're dinners ready...YOU'RE DINNERS READY...OI!!!, EAT NOW!!!

Yep a recently introduced update allows for a “Drop in” feature whereby you can assign each device a name and then command Alexa to “call” a specific one. Means that it can be used as a hands free intercom, baby monitor etc and has the added bonus of including your smart phone or tablet act as additional calling “portals” once they have the app installed and set up appropriately.

That does sound useful compared to yelling down the stairs but not sure SWMBO would think its worth $99 though.

I can drop in to a specific alexa device at home from my phone.

But it is possible to drop in to all your home devices simultaneously? I'd like to get the attention of my son but I don't know which part of the house he is in. I can drop in individually to every device till I find him but it could be easier.
