I have a new house with Cat6 cable run to the exterior for a doorbell and have the Ring Video Doorbell (Gen1)

Sure i could have got the Video Doorbell Elite with PoE but wasn't worth the money to me. if i cant get it hardwired will just use the battery not worth over $500 more for PoE

Contacting Ring support the Ring Video Doorbell (Gen1) can be powered by a 8-24VAC and 10-30VA Transformer.

My question is can / should I use this https://www.jaycar.co.nz/16v-ac-1-25-amp-alarm-power-supply/p/MP3021

and the cat6 cable to achieve this?

I’ve done exactly this but with a 24vac transformer, I used 4 if the individual wires for the phase and 4 for the neutral and my run was roughly 25m and it’s been working fine without issue. In the ring app the power status says “very good” too.

There is the ring pro which is hardwired only and includes the transformer

I looked into this a while back, and recall the instructions saying that a resistor is required. Here's the link:

You could possibly get the Pro AC adapter and use it with the standard doorbell? Not sure whether it is compatible, but the specs say 24V AC at 20 VA.

Slightly confusing that the picture is of an NZ plug, but with US plug specs:

Mine is pretty average. With motion alerts and live view on I have to charge every few weeks. Only a year old.

Thars really weird, ours is now hard wired but at our previous property we were getting about 3 months between charges roughly 10-20 alerts a day. Maybe a recent firmware change?
