I have really liked my Roborock S6 but have been keeping an eye out for a Auto Empty Model. Just saw this today from PBTech:

Preorder the latest Roborock Vacuum and Save! - PBTech.co.nz

Even with the discount it seems like a premium pricetag so not sure I can justify the purchase though.

Yeah, similarly I can’t justify the upgrade (from an S5) but if ours was broken, or I was buying our first robovac, I think I’d take that price on the chin.

I find ours doesn’t perform as well if the container isn’t emptied frequently. May not be such an issue on newer versions like the S7, but I’d still go for the convenience factor of self-emptying.

TBH, I am kinda tempted to upgrade anyway, as the multiple maps feature would be a great feature to have. Oh, plus the sensor that ensures only hard floors are mopped (never used the mop on ours as we have split wood/carpet in the dining room). Must not think this, must not think this…

I'm curious to know if anyone has bought the S7 with the auto empty dock, and if so how they've found it?

While a number of places are selling the vacuum itself, looks like few if any have the dock in stock.

I recall PB Tech's initial price was pretty decent - can anyone recall what it was?  The current web page shows the price for the pair was last $1400, and given other places such as Mighty Ape have just the cleaner listed at $1300, that still seems a pretty decent price.

I'm getting more tempted to get one, given I'm sick of having to mop the kitchen floor...

I bought the bundle from PB for $1134 just after my original Xiaomi gave up the ghost after three years.  The auto empty thing is well worth it and the mopping on the S7 is actually really good.  The new rubber no bristle brush is possibly / maybe not as good on the carpet as the Xiaomi Mi Robot, possibly...

$1100 for three years worth doesn't seem like a great return.

My old Mi Robot lasted three years and cost about $390 so not too bad.  It started having a burning rubber smell so assume there was an internal drive belt that eventually failed.

Am hoping the S7 will last longer...

Is the S7 smarter than the Xiaomi robots? For $400 it's fantastic, but object detection is poor - it often finds things by bashing into them particularly things that are slightly off the floor like side tables. Sure it's partly rubber on the front but it's not great, I've got a bunch of exclusion zones on the maps to prevent it

Don't know how to compare the two.  The Mi was fairly basic and never really had a problem with it's object detection and/or bumping into things.  The S7 seems to do the same sort of thing but it's very gentle.

The Roborock series use a wider range of sensors than the cheap Xiaomi cleaners, eg lidar; this is on models like the S5 we own (had it 2.5 years) as well as the current S7. As a result definitely better at navigating, though they'll still do some bumping into things but as another post says it's gentle. I've never had the sense it'll damage stuff, nor felt the need to add exclusion zones for this (I do this more for the ability of the machine to misjudge height and get stuck under couches or beds!). Another advantage is they work fine in the dark (don't think this is the case with the non-lidar models).

Christ, that was a good deal; thinking back I was silly not to jump at it when it was that price. Given the current lack of stock I could be waiting a while to see it that cheap again.

Mentioned this to my wife just before, and she too is keen on the mopping function, which we've never bothered with on our S5 as it's so rudimentary. If we purchased an S7 with sucky base while our S5 is still working well we could help finance it with the money from selling the S5! (I wondered why ours wasn't working that well this morning, and opening the bin realised I'd forgotten to empty it on Friday; I find if it's not emptied frequently it's not nearly as effective - so a sucky base would be fantastic.)

Just bought a Roborock S7 bundle from https://robomate.co.nz/product/roborock-s7-plus/

Although PB is supposed to be an 'exclusive' supplier this ended up $100 cheaper for the bundle. Dock will arrive once it's in stock.

Looking forward to this as my first Robovac. Especially with pet hair showing up more since we're getting into summer

I bought the original really cheap S7 bundle from PB Tech so have had the S7 running now for a couple of months.  It's an awesome bundle, the only thing I would say is that the new rubber only brush (no bristles) isn't as effective at picking up pet hair as a normal brush.
