Hi Everyone, I'm based in Christchurch and looking for a new IT role.
I've tried a few places without luck, so want to put my name in at a Recruitment agency as they've been good in the past.
Any suggestions please?

I can't say my experiences with IT recruiters have been at all positive. Most seem to be unable to relate experience to job requirements.
That said, I did have a positive experience with Sourced in Christchurch (https://sourced.nz/). Nothing came of it, but I found them good to talk to, and they took an interest in my skills.
Good luck with your job search.

This. Look for IT companies that are recruiting via their own site etc, its how Ive gotten my jobs over the past 10 years. Dealing with a non-IT 3rd party is just frustrating.

Ditto, some of them seem absolutely useless and understanding your role experience. I've had a couple question whether I'm technical, so I go full technical about my skills and their eyes glaze over. Then they come back and say I'm too technical. Most them seem very young, like insurance sales people.
http://www.thecreativestore.co.nz/ might be worth a look or-wise I wouldn't bother with recruitment agencies. Most recruiters don't know what www means never mind PHP.
A few months ago I interviewed for a tech job at a large corporate retailler. I was called back for a 2nd interview but I got cold feet after they stalled. By the time the manager belatedly got back to me - for various reasons I had lost interest - specifically in their job.
I have now gone and set up a business independently doing a lot of the same stuff as I would have done for them.
I realised a great truth in all this. I am the one holding the keys to the value for the customer. I only need them to the extent I could be persuaded working in a corporate job was a good career move. And to be fair, it does work for some people.
But it's not the only gig in town.

A few years ago I got headhunted for a job at a large Christchurch IT shop by Platinum Recruitment and they were pretty good to deal with. Also talked to Sourced a few times and they seemed okay.
I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. Also FWIW in general IT recruiters vary. Some of them are pretty good, and some of them are terrible.

Cons:
My 2 cents.

Whoever has the position you want is the best recruitment agent for that position. Sometimes positions go to a single agency, sometimes to multiple. Agents move firms regularly, firms split, new agencies pop up as recruiters presumably want a bigger slice of the pie (about 10% of the position / contract they place), it's a very active market. There seems to be hundreds of IT recruitment agencies in Wellington, with the firm names always changing but mostly the same people working in them.
Having said that, I find Beyond Recruitment generally better than others. They tend to have more stable staffing and get many of the government contracts / jobs.
Just watch seek and apply with whatever agency has the position you want.
I try not to deal with agencies, but individuals. Once I find a good one I follow them wherever they go. You'll find that the recruitment industry is pretty small so people move from agency to agency quite regularly. Build a relationship with a few good people and then contact them directly whenever you're wanting to put your name back out into the market. That's the approach that has worked best for me over the years.
I was hired through Radius NZ in 2013. Try them out. Hays are good too.
