A friend has given me his phone to convert photos from vertical to horizontal iPhone.

He has taken a lot and didn't realize you could turn your phone to horizontal to take photos.

Is there an easy way to flip these photos searched, but can't seem to find a simple remedy!

assuming the photos are jpegs, it's easy enough to edit the orientation flag in the exif from portrait to landscape. i don't know what the latest freeware for this purpose is available. quick search showed a few, like this one - https://www.iloveimg.com/rotate-image/rotate-jpg

the big question here is would it make sense? the photos would still look the same, i.e. you won't gain any wider view from what the portrait image was.

or did i completely misunderstand you? could you possibly mean having to crop the portrait photos to get them in landscape form?

Thanks for that. I remember years ago I flipped some videos and that worked, never tried photos, as phone automatically turned for landscape shots.  But thanks will look at what you sent!

If you're taking portrait-oriented photos with an iPhone, they are going to be in a standard aspect ratio that fits the screen.

Flipping them will simply put them on their side.

Cropping them to make them appear landscape will remove a massive chunk of each photo, so I am unsure of what it is that the person is hoping you can achieve.

As mentioned, what you will want to do with the photos will depend on whether you want to crop into each photo to end up with a landscape photo (or a square, or other shape), or just rotate the image (often when pointing a phone or other camera straight down the sensor doesn't know whether the photo should be landscape or portrait format).

If you don't have too many photos to alter there is an editing function on the phone - when viewing a photo tap the icon at the bottom or side - 3 lines with 'dots' on them and then tap the crop icon. Then you can either rotate the photo with the icon that has a square & arrow until it has the orientation you want then tap 'done', or to crop the photo use the icon with different sized rectangles and then choose various cropping options.

Good luck,

Mike
