I actually dont think it will go down before midnight but then again everyone is saying 8pm.

Yup it checks all stores and should state which are down (i only was made aware of this site today so not 100% sure how it identifies and differentiates between which stores are up and down)

They also have a twitter feed /applestoredown

Hah... true. All things come to those who wait. Whatever happens tho, I couldn't live with myself buying one from VF after this effort.

Yeah, it goes down, when they are updating the stores. it depends. 30mins to a hour.
