Maybe not. I think they trialed this with the previous 5SE model which was only available in 16GB and 64GB versions. Think of it this way
* 64GB for the ordinary office user who makes phone calls an checks mail only.
* 256GB for everybody else because of photo & game storage requirements

Edit: and looking at the current line up of 7+ in the Apple store, you have 32GB and 128GB. That intermediate tier seems to be gone.

7/7+ came in 32, 128 and 256 GB

I think some cars have wireless charging pads in them (don't quote me on this)

Not sure about NZ but my brother has a Toyota pickup in the US (larger than a Hilux but not massive - can't recall the model) and that has one as a factory fitment.

Toyota Tacoma? That truck has some tech to dig itself out of sand!

They didn't claim. But Apple users do claim some strange things - ignoring other companies already have the same "innovation" in other handsets. The way I see the original reply it was a joke on this.

Yep, I saw it as a joke too. Just a bit of a tired one. They will still sell millions of these 'new' phones to people that have never seen these things before in their phone (if they've always had an Apple phone that is).

I have seen these features, but I have yet to see a Samsung phone that is as well integrated with the software as an Apple phone, that is why I stick with Apple. Every time I pickup an Android I feel a lack of quality around the integration.

Frankly the assertion that Apple users are idiots is getting a little dated, as is the level of spam on any apple threads but Andriod fanbois.

Torque: Interesting price differential with Australia - if you find yourself over there anyhow, arguably cheaper to get one there and get the GST back on the way out..

Just note covered by the CGA if something goes wrong!

I am over in late October so will just miss out.

I have to agree, apple is really good at making things talk together if you have all apple products. Samsung is getting better at integration however it's a little bit harder for them if they are not making the OS. Even when they make windows apps to talk to their phones then they need to support a lot of different hardware etc.

Now if you have a samsung tablet, phone and wearable they all do talk to each other.

No one has asserted Apple users are idiots. And no spam either. Some of us can't see the relative value for users in Apple re-releasing 3-4 year old hardware at current flagship prices, or the new phone at exorbitant prices. We're simply commenting such.

A big reason I moved from Android to Apple was the because Android feels like an unfinished product and I got sick of Rooting and ROMing my phones to get that stock android experience with decent hardware as opposed to buying a Nexus (which I ended up doing anyway) with sub par specs.

iOS just seems more fluid and optimised better, it's boring as eff and I do miss playing around with Android at times but overall the user experience is superior.

So my question for current iPhone users is this: What iPhone do you currently have, and what phone will you next buy - the iPhone 8 at $1,200+ which looks no different from the phone you currently own, or will you pay close to the $2,000, or more, Apple are asking for the new X? Or will you buy something other than an iPhone?

I have no idea why, but that always happens, a share price drop. Maybe the share market expected the globe to wobble on its axis at release time, and it didnt?? :-)

For me the top price point that i would pay in cash or on a credit card is about $1500, but i expect a lot more than what the iphone 8 or 8+ has to offer. The iphone x should have been 1600NZ for the 128 or 256 version. Iphone 8+ @ 1200, iphone 8 at $1000 (that is max spec pricing).

What apple is asking is just mad.

Will people still pay what they are asking, yes they will but it's getting to the point where only a few can afford them.

I am more inclined to think that the 64Gb is aimed at those who use iCloud, and the 256Gb is aimed at people who want all their media stored locally on their device.

Given the discussion above around the handling of iCloud Photo Library, and my use of streaming audio, I'm pretty convinced that 64Gb is enough. Right now I'm only using about 18Gb on my 64Gb device. I'm still slightly nervous that I might regret not buying the 256Gb but the $300 difference is a lot of money, and I can't really rationalise the idea that I could use more than 64Gb.

Thats where the interest free payments kicked in a few years back, at Apple and the telco's. Now you can buy the phone with no cash outlay. While the pricing to you and me is mad, its still easy.

I will upgrade my current 6s Plus to either a 256Mb 8 or 8 Plus around Christmas time...purely because my music library is too big for my 128Gb phone now and I use it extensively whilst on the move and in the car with CarPlay.

The main reason I went with the Plus in the first place was the extra battery life, but I am thinking now of maybe getting the Standard 8 Plus a Mophie battery case instead...

I can't say any of the new "features" of the phone are of any interest beyond what I have now. Perhaps I will be better served buying a second-hand 256Gb 7 Plus instead as the early adopters start to sell theirs to buy the 8!

My iPhone 7+ 128gb cost $1629.00 so the jump up to $1699 isn't too bad but in comparison to that, To go to the 256gb is a stretch. I am still 50/50 if I am going to replace my 7+ or not.

Im over the annual incremental upgrades, EVERY one form 4S to 6+. Didnt even listen to the keynote. I came here to see what the release was! A long way from the fanboy I was

I have 6+, 3yo phone now, ill get a 256GB X as I will have that for 3 years probably more, as its just a phone, like every other phone.
