Location based reminder worked a treat except that it requires location service to be on at all times until you've completed the reminder. So probably not feasible to set a reminder when you get to work to reminder you to do something when you leave work at the end of the day.

Anybody here tried using the new Find my Mac feature? Whenever I try it it just seems to give me a "No Location" error even though it can be located in Safari (which uses the same geo-location method) and Google Chrome/Firefox (which both use the same method, but a different one to Safari/iCloud).

tdgeek: One last query. Does it matter if the iOS version differs slightly? Both devices arent here with me right now,  but the iPad1 is on latest iOS4 and I assume iPad2 purchased yersterday at DSE is also on an iOS4 version. If the iPad2 is not the exact iOS4 version does that matter?

I don't think that it matters.

DjShadow: I just tested an XT micro-sim in my iphone, it received a carrier update and was able to check for software updates fine.
Put my 2degrees sim back in, no carrier update and unable to check for software updates

Probably Apple just having capacity issues, maybe try again later?

Because if you set up the location based reminder when you got to work at 9 for something you need to do when you leave at 5. the Location service has to be on all day, so it can tell when you leave work. Your battery would probably be flat by lunchtime.

Battery impact seems to not be too bad for location based reminders. Did some testing last week and had exactly that scenario, Set to remind me of something at the end of the day. Phone was very lightly used other then the reminder but was still at 55% in the evening when I put it on to charge. Normally it is at 70%+ same situation without reminder. However one thing to note is that it seems to take a few minutes to give you the reminder. I was about 2km down the road before the reminder went off.

Few thoughts/complaints:

Definitely can't choose or change APN with an xt sim in, doesn't even show me the settings page for this. Probably due to Telecom being added to the carrier update. Tinfoil hat tells me this may be due to Telecom planning to sell iPhone,  Hanlons razor version - probably related to the gen-I distribution deal for government departments.

Location based reminders don't work on my iPhone 3GS, likely because the gps chipset uses too much juice, which seems to be covered in the posts above.

Ios5 definitely uses much of the system ram available, so I am proactively monitoring the number of apps I have running in the background.

Stupid idea to put the notifications in the middle of the screen in the iPad, looks tacked on and horrible. Would have been much better off to one side.

So can't change APN for XT? Does it work with XT or not?

Works with XT. No need to change the APN as it is configured as a carrier update.

I tested a diff sim in my phone again this weekend and found when doing this it wipes all your data and MMS APN settings, if you put an XT one in it seems to auto find its settings but soon as I put my 2degrees one back in I've lost data until I manually re-enter the settings.

I've tied asking 2degrees via twitter about having a carrier bundle but they won't answer.

Yes Vodafone and Telecom have an agreement with Apple to include their settings into the Operating system. 2Degrees don't have this agreement .

I don't know (or even how you'd find out) what the commercials are to get a certain carrier included in apples operating system included.

A lot of agreements (even before you talk to another company) have NDA's so maybe they are not answering because of this or something else.

I believe if 2Degrees could tell the public they would but getting upset doesn't help. Its just life.
