So at Apple's "Let's talk iPhone" event they announced that iOS 5 will be released on the 12th of October. Anyone managed to update their devices yet?

I just tried and nothing...

It's still 11th in USA so don't expect the update until tomorrow here.

When you do get it, and it offers to back your phone up to the cloud, remember how much data it could use backing up to said cloud, and how it could magically chew through your bandwidth at home, especially if you have a few iOS devices.

I say this from having the GM, and lots of photos on my iphone.

ITunes 10.5 has just come out so i shouldn't think it will be too long after that, as it needs that iTunes for the wireless syncing.

I thought Apple always goes by local time so NZ gets it first? I guess its just me being optimistic..

But when we got the iPhone 3gs it was released on a certain date and NZ got it first, not the day after release date in the US.

And surely it'd be easier with a software update ;)

But maybe Apple is still mad at NZ for last years iPhone 4 launch? :P

Yup its in the settings once installed. When you install it asks if you want to back up to icloud or not. if you say yes, and then once your setup go to icloud settings, and you will see everything it backs up, and the amount it uses in MB, and the little slider beside each one to turn on or off.

Perfectly resonable question by the OP if you ask me. As stated by others, Apple hasnt always respected the US timezone with releases in the past.
