psychrn: I've set up a US account.

Tried to purchase apps with credit card but they don't go through.

What's the catch here ??

Has to be a US credit card. You cant even cheat them by using a paypal account as paypal also checks to make sure you have a US payment method.

Ok- I wondered that.
Only any good for the free apps then.

You guys can get one through http://www.mobicity.com.au/apple-ipad.html

Not sure if it's been mentioned prior as I haven't been following this thread :P

A very reputable retailer based in Aussie and they do send overseas.

I personally would wait for the 3G version to come out so one's not stuck around a wifi connection.

There are a few but a lot of apps still havent been updated for the IPad.
From memory the free apps I have are BBC news and Ibooks, also bought a couple of games and air video (which is great).

Non US credit card won't do. The best way to go about is using US iTunes gift card to make purchase. How reliable is Mobicity?

Very reliable.  Top notch service and always willing to help.  I have contacted them quite a few times when I wanted a Nokia N900.

Am I missing someting or is there something wrong with purchasing from Toshcomputers?

At least some money stays in New Zealand, and with the exchange rate is it actually cheaper importing from Australia anyway?

Edit: oh is the issue to do with supply/stock?

Ahmad, its to do with supply, and I have made purchases with Jens with no problems, and i am sticking with him for my next Apple-related purchase. :)

I've certainly had good experiences with Tosh too.

Have a 3G iPad on order with them. No doubt it will come through.

Would be interesting to know if supply has held up for them, given it sounds like 3Gs were a bit constrained on their US launch.

So is the conclusion that we can't buy pay-for apps in NZ for the iPad yet?

Yes that appears to be the case - unless you have purchased US Itunes cards as mentioned elsewhere in this thread

at least it will be easier once the australian launch happens in a month - be much easier to get a hold of an aussie credit card or itunes card I imagine.

Still don't get why they don't launch in NZ at the same time as Aussie, since we're not that far from them, and surely including NZ in shipping date won't hurt them that much in supply to Aussie would it? Or the nasty copyright had different say across the ditch?
