Because it seems like it's going to be a while before the iPad is available in NZ I'm exploring other options.
toshcomputers is asking top-top dollar, and still can't guarantee when they'll deliver etc.

Anybody have any ideas how to get one from the US? Only $711 NZD with todays exchange rate!

Please, no hating fanboys! If I wanted to know how lame the iPad is, or how cool android is I'd be reading other posts....or believing news websites lol

My wife is a flight attendant so I can fly up to the US for a few hundred bucks and get one. Anyone else want one while I'm up there?

Talk about perks :P

Unfortunately I can't say I will be getting one at the moment :(

Being a student, don't have much cash lying around - especially after just buying an iPhone O_O.

Yup pretty lucky, business class too :) Better keep her around for a bit longer...

I did this at the beginning of 2008 when someone on here wanted an iPhone (first gen) so I went up and bought him one.

The 16GB Wi-Fi would be US$540 which includes California sales tax of 8.25%, or approximately NZ$770 based on today's exchange rate.

Sounds good, you'd have to preorder though? I only want the entry-level one anyways! :)

That's the thing. You can only pre-order two iPads, so one for me and one for someone else wouldn't really make it worthwhile, and who knows what the stock levels would be like on the day for the average person walking in off the street to buy one. Then there's the risk of paying GST upon arrival in NZ if Customs are in the mood for charging.

Ditch the packaging and stick it in with your shirts or something? You can only pre-order if you're in the states though??

Yeah that's always an option! The system accepted my Apple ID and I was one click away from reserving my iPad for pick-up at the San Francisco store! I've read about people from other countries also having no problem placing an order.

So, just need to know how many people are keen to see how viable it will be!

Well I'm 100%
Hope it doesn't need activation cuz the nz store won't be online?
At what point does it become viable? :)

I imagine the only "activation" required will be to fire up iTunes and authorise it to be used with that computer.

Not sure! Will see how much interest there is first and go from there!
