aimsy007: Would look a bit silly lining up outside a store already only to find (on Friday) that they were not allocated any due to the shortage!

I think I might wait to see what stores will actually have them.

Waiting for a day, two days max for me (it won't happen), but for a week? Laughing They must be mad.

Still waiting for pricing... are we seriously going to be first country with the iPhone but only having the details announced at the last minute? Hope not.

Yeah I agree....the first and the last....just seems absurd.

If they haven't announced by Monday I think it's pretty appalling really.

Could it be that Vodafone is actually undecided about pricing and is waiting for everyone else?

What's taking them so long?

Had to go with i-mates in our Australian branch because we needed to make a decision quickly. Vodafone failed on this one for me.

Still hoping, though.

I'm not sure where the breakdown is happening here.  Is VFNZ still negotiating with Apple?  Are we waiting for all VFs from around the world to have everything finalised so they can have a globally concurrent release of information?  These are the only legitimate reasons I can think of as to why they can't even tell us when the pricing will be released.

All I know is this is turning into an exercise on how to alienate your potential customer base before you've even begun.  Yell

I doubt it...it's not just here that Vodafone haven't released prices. Perhaps they believe it somehow ramps up the anticipation or maybe they don't want the reaction like the way the Canadians reacted....check out 'www.F ** kYouRogers.com'....inserting the 'uc' back there and getting rid of spaces.

Doesn't really work as a reason for VFNZ considering how they're going to have the NZ market sown up until Telecom release their network at the end of the year.  Where else are you going to go?

Right, but exclusivity doesn't mean there's no bad reaction...there is already...

Alternatively, perhaps it is an attempt to generate buzz? I find it hard to imagine they've not settled on costs yet.

Here's an alternative scenario...

Non-Geek NZers (99.8% ?) are currently unaware of the 3G iPhone being available in NZ on Friday.

After the marketing blitz starts on Monday, some of them will think, "Hmm I want one"

If availability was more than a few days away they'd be pissed off!

As it stands currently, a handful of impatient geeks (me included!) who will buy it anyway (me included again) are a tad impatient...

My money is on the Vodafone marketing department knowing exactly what they are doing.

Advertising without product distribution is a waste of$$$!

I probably wouldn't have disagreed with that, although I was amazed when the press release from Apple and Vodafone went live, only to find that the NZ version had the pre-pay option edited out later that day. If they are that on the ball, that would never have happened.

I see your point though. They also had a "pre register" option on their site and they removed that also. I'm assuming they got quite a few people signing up to it who would have been (will be) very annoyed to find there's limited supplies.

Still I personally would make a distinction between a "marketing blitz" and simply listing the price somewhere out of the way vs 100% secrecy.
Still, it's probably such a small proportion who really want to know...

Here's another one,

VF is taking so long to stick their pricing up b/c they can't decided what to sell it for. On the one hand Apple has said "Worldwide Price" on the other hanf VF has screwed the publiuc in NZ for YEARS! with the price of their handsets.

So whats it going to look like when the top of the line iphone gets released CHEAP AS? they're gunna look like dorks and pirates.

I think they're in a bind.

I have a feeling vodafone are going to screw us.  I expect the handset to be reasonably priced but the data will be extortionate.

I've owned a first gen iphone since just after launch and it's bloody brilliant.  I love it and I love surfing via wifi.  I've never bothered surfing via GPRS other than by accident due to the ridiculous cost.  Every Joe Bloggs (not uber geeks) that I've shown the iPhone to has wanted one - it's that cool.   I think Vodafone will target Joe Bloggs with the iPhone, not us geeks.

My prediction:
1. iPhone will be attractively priced
2. Heaps of average joes will flock to it not realising the data charges they're going to be in for
3. After showing their friends how they can watch Youtube and surf the web they get stung with a bill in the hundreds of dollars
4. Article on the front page of stuff.co.nz about a person with a thousand dollar iphone bill :-)

This new $1 for 10mb per day thing is a joke.  Come on vodafone give us lots of data! :-)

If you actually think about it, comparing to what Vodafone used to have, it's a big change. Although it may be nothing compared to other carriers in other countries, Vodafone did introduce a somewhat radical way of thinking (for them) into that one.

And that's only the *casual* pricing. If you really want to use the phone for data, there are still some plans available (although they may change a little bit).
