Not bitter. Just think that dropping functionality from a product for reason of a self-serving revenue grab, then telling loyal customers that this is something that took 'courage' is something that discerning buyers should recognize as such. 

 

It seems quite clear when you look at the internals (here and here) that the new taptic engine / vibration actuator is so much larger than the old one that there isn't any room left there for the headphone jack. They could have made the phone taller or thicker but I have a feeling that would be received much worse than just removing one jack.

Apple appears to have decided that the benefits of the new vibration outweighs the disadvantages of no longer having a 3.5mm headphone jack. It seems that millions of people agree.

Let's try and keep it sensible shall we?

They have removed one (arguably) legacy connector that already had 1 replacement (bluetooth) and provided another alternative (lightning connector). That is a far cry from removing the core function of a mobile phone...

I am no Apple apologist but this really isn't the apocalyptic change that people are making it out to be.

Yes, in a device where every fraction of a mm counts for packaging. There is a fair bit more space inside even an ultra slim laptop.

Yeah plus the 3.5mm port has multiple uses... mono/stereo audio, 5.1 surround optical pass-through, microphone, and anything else your line-in channel can do like volume/voice control etc. It's such a useful input method.

I know I'm not going to buy. I don't need my phone to be waterproof for paying the cost of not having an audio jack. Charger port to 3.5 mm audio jack converter is so lame and pathetic for an iPhone.

Besides, I want to and I need to whisper in the mouth piece. How can I do that with a tiny bluetooth earpod?

The dumb thing is that you don't need to lose the jack to make the phone water resistant: many phones have both! My new Xperia XZ, for example, has IP68 rating and a jack...!

Losing the jack isn't for waterproofing though (at least mainly). If you look at the teardown pictures posted earlier the space for the headphone socket is now taken by the giant vibration unit (taptic engine), obviously a tradeoff Apple felt was worth it.

Increase margin. Make HUGE margins on the adapters. But the sales will drop more IMHO. Touchbar is a cool idea. but spec and price accordingly
